Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office three days per week.

About the role

In this role, you will support the international Weather & Energy Markets department of Swiss Re and be part of the Business Intelligence & Analytics team. You will work closely with the Origination and Underwriting teams on tailor-made derivative contracts for institutional investors seeking to hedge against weather and commodity price risks. Your responsibilities include developing and maintaining our IT infrastructure and processes for pricing, booking, and valuing derivative contracts. You will also participate in various projects related to portfolio steering, product development, reporting, KPI tracking, risk reviews, and governance. This involves collaborating with internal stakeholders to understand requirements, develop solutions, provide ad hoc services, and take ownership of projects and deliverables.

Swiss Re Corporate Solutions is a leading player in the global Weather, Energy, Commodity, and Power Plant risk transfer markets. We offer a wide range of climate, power, natural gas, and power plant outage risk solutions in insurance and capital markets. Our clients include power and gas utilities, retailers, independent power producers, renewables, banks, and other energy sectors.

About you

  • Master's degree in a quantitative science (data, computer, engineering, mathematics including statistics, economics)
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills and interest in learning new techniques, including personal development
  • At least 3 years of object-oriented programming experience in Python, R, or C++
  • Professional experience in database development using SQL (PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server)
  • Experience working in Windows and Linux/Unix environments, including shell scripting and PowerShell
  • Proficiency in Excel
  • Excellent communication skills in English and ability to collaborate independently with internal clients
  • Strong desire to work in virtual, multi-national, multi-cultural, cross-company, and cross-functional teams
  • Familiarity with financial market products and some knowledge of the insurance/reinsurance industries
  • Experience with statistical analysis and processing large datasets

Additional skills that are a plus:

  • Experience with Cloud environments like AWS or Azure
  • Knowledge of weather and energy commodity markets, power and gas trading, and data analysis
