Strategic Context

This role sits at the heart of Swiss Re’s L&H Technical Excellence strategy, supporting the L&H Underwriting Academy’s mandate to build the next generation of technically rigorous, commercially minded costing actuaries. As part of the L&H UW Academy 2026 roadmap, the Costing SME will enable Swiss Re to deliver on its Strategic Workforce Plan (SWP) priorities—addressing identified capability gaps in risk assessment, in‑force costing, and commercial decision‑making—while ensuring alignment with the Group UW Academy minimum standards for learning design.

The Costing SME will lead the translation of Swiss Re’s deep costing expertise into scalable, reusable learning solutions that directly strengthen risk and capital discipline across markets. By embedding technical excellence into the Authority Learning Journeys and BU‑priority programs, this role ensures that costing capabilities are consistently applied, enabling better decision‑making and supporting sustainable portfolio performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive Technical Excellence: Define and validate the costing competencies required for authority progression (L0–L4) in collaboration with the Academy and MU leaders. Co‑design and review the Costing Authority Learning Journeys, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and alignment with Swiss Re’s pricing principles.
  • Build Scalable Learning Impact: Partner with L&D design experts to transform technical costing expertise into engaging learning experiences (cases, clinics, simulations, knowledge checks). Ensure each module follows the 70‑20‑10 design model, promoting on‑the‑job learning and peer collaboration for measurable business impact.
  • Enable Capability Mobility and Consistency: Provide input to align authority granting with real‑world costing capability, reinforcing consistent decision quality across regions and products. Contribute to the development of global costing standards and tools through insights gained from the learning process.
  • Strengthen Knowledge Transfer and Culture: Lead instructor‑led sessions and mentoring exchanges to build a culture of professional curiosity and commercial accountability. Capture and codify critical institutional knowledge from senior costing experts, mitigating upcoming talent and retirement risks identified in the SWP.

Profile

  • Experienced L&H Pricing / Costing Actuary with deep technical knowledge of Treaty and In‑force costing, pricing methodologies, and tools.
  • Demonstrated strength in translating complex actuarial insight into learning and development impact.
  • Familiarity with the governance framework.
  • Credibility with senior stakeholders and ability to engage across functions (Pricing, Underwriting, Claims, HR).
  • Experience in mentoring, coaching, or technical training is a strong advantage.
  • Strong communicator, pragmatic problem‑solver, and collaborative team player.

Duration & Scope

9‑month rotation (2026), full‑time, with clear deliverables tied to the L&H UW Academy 2026 roadmap:

  • Completion of Costing Authority Learning Journeys (L0–L4) by Q4 2026.
  • Delivery of BU‑priority learning content.
  • Active contribution to SME knowledge transfer and authority linkage frameworks.

Strategic Impact

  • Closes priority capability gaps identified in the L&H SWP.

  • Creates scalable learning assets that reduce future design costs and sustain long‑term technical excellence.
