About the Role
This is a high-level Claims position, based in London, responsible for the professional handling of complex claims with a focus on Professional Liability & Director & Officers Liability claims, alongside a diverse portfolio of Casualty, International Programs, and General Liability claims underwritten in the UK Casualty market. Reporting to the Technical Lead Casualty & FinPro London, you’ll be instrumental in delivering exceptional customer service in line with our Corporate Solutions Claims Commitment.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver exceptional claim handling consistent with the Swiss Re Corporate Solutions Claim Commitment and Claim Handling Expectations.
- Manage complex claims within defined technical authority, including coverage review, investigation, evaluation, and executing appropriate resolution strategies.
- Set and maintain appropriate reserves based on thorough risk assessment and analysis.
- Develop and implement strategies for fair claim resolution, including settlement negotiations.
- Drive proactive claim management through effective diary management and timely resolution.
- Select and manage external experts and vendors, setting appropriate budgets and controlling costs.
- Provide actionable insights to internal stakeholders and underwriting teams.
- Assist with contractual wording and risk assessments to support underwriting decisions.
- Maintain clear communication with Claim Management and stakeholders regarding loss potential and material developments.
- Ensure compliance with internal governance, legal and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in professional development and industry training, obtaining applicable certifications.
- Contribute to regional and global projects as required.
About the Team
The UK claims team is based in London & Manchester and comprises 17 claims professionals of different backgrounds, fields and languages, handling losses in the wholesale and retail markets across all the main lines of business. We believe that the way in which claims are handled, through the delivery of our Corporate Solutions Claims Commitment, can be a key differentiator and enables us to provide a unique and de-commoditised service to our customers. Put simply: we want exemplary claims service to be the reason customers buy insurance from Swiss Re Corporate Solutions.
About You
You’re a detail-oriented claims professional who thrives in a challenging environment. You possess excellent analytical skills and can navigate complex policy wordings with confidence. Your communication skills allow you to build strong relationships with stakeholders, and you’re adept at negotiating optimal outcomes while maintaining the highest standards of customer service.
We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:
- Minimum 10 years Claims/Insurance Industry experience, preferably in the primary insurance market with focus on FinPro lines of business (USA & UK based claims).
- University degree or equivalent insurance or legal-based work experience.
- Strong coverage analysis, investigation, loss evaluation and claim valuation skills.
- Proven ability to act as lead on complex claims, directing the market and developing claim strategies.
- Excellent negotiation skills with demonstrated success in achieving positive outcomes.
These are additional nice to haves:
- Professional qualifications such as ACII, CIP, or legal qualification.
- Experience managing external experts and controlling costs effectively.
- Strong understanding of underwriting and other insurance functions.
- Advanced computer skills including proficiency in MS Office suite and research tools.
- Additional language skills.
- Experience working with international insurance programs.
Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office at least three days per week.
For London the annual base salary range for this position is between GBP 80,000 and GBP 120,000 (for a full-time role). The specific salary offered considers the requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role, the applicant’s own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience. In addition to your base salary, Swiss Re offers an attractive performance-based variable compensation component, designed to recognise your achievements. Further you will enjoy a variety of global and location specific benefits. Eligibility may vary depending on the terms of Swiss Re policies and your employment contract.
