As an Underwriting Portfolio Engineer in the integrated Portfolio Strategy & Steering team, you will use advanced data, engineering and analytical techniques to improve underwriting portfolio decisions, identify risks and opportunities, and enable effective portfolio steering. You will work directly with underwriting portfolio managers and leaders to frame material business questions, analyse complex portfolio data, and build practical solutions in Palantir and other relevant platforms. This is a hands‑on delivery role across the full lifecycle: defining the problem, exploring data, building and deploying solutions, supporting adoption and measuring impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Build underwriting-specific data products, analytical tools and Palantir workflows that support portfolio planning, capacity setting and steering.
- Translate material underwriting portfolio questions into practical analytics and reusable decision-support capabilities.
- Analyse performance, exposures, concentrations, dependencies and portfolio dynamics to inform portfolio decisions.
- Develop, test, deploy and maintain robust solutions using reliable, decision-ready data from multiple sources.
- Work with users through delivery and adoption, measuring whether solutions improve the quality, speed or consistency of decisions.
- Contribute to common engineering practices, reusable components, documentation and analytical standards across the team.
About the Team
The Portfolio Strategy & Steering team brings together underwriting portfolio management, engineering, data and advanced analytical capabilities. The team operates as one integrated group with team members holding distinct but complementary accountabilities and jointly responsible for priorities, quality and impact.
About You
You combine strong data and engineering capability with an interest in underwriting, commercial decision‑making and portfolio management. You focus on solving business problems, not just technical problems. You are comfortable working with complex datasets, developing analytical workflows and engaging with business stakeholders to understand the decisions your work supports. You can move between exploratory analysis and production‑quality delivery, challenge assumptions, investigate ambiguity and remain accountable for whether your solutions are used and create value.
We are looking for candidates who bring:
- Hands‑on experience developing data products, analytical workflows or decision‑support solutions in Palantir Foundry or a comparable platform.
- Strong capability in data modelling, transformation, integration and analysis, using technologies such as Python, SQL or equivalent tools.
- Experience taking solutions from problem definition through development, testing, deployment and continuous improvement.
- Ability to translate complex or ambiguous business questions into practical analytical approaches and clear outputs.
- Ability to explain technical findings clearly and work effectively with underwriting, portfolio‑management and other business stakeholders.
