The Claims team is based in London and comprises of 10 claims professionals handling a variety of reinsurance losses. We believe that the way our claims are managed using our 8 Core Claims Handling Principles enables us to provide a unique service to our customers. Put simply; we want exemplary claims service to be the reason customers buy Reinsurance from Swiss Re.
About the Role
This is an unusual opportunity and falls outside of the usual remit of a Reinsurance Claims Expert. We are looking for someone with a multi-disciplined skill set which will include being able to oversee high value UK primary insurance losses in the Casualty, Motor and Disease areas, having expertise in all aspects in the management and oversight of TPA's and MGA's, being able to handle reinsurance recoveries, and a willingness to be involved in all aspects of retrospective transactions. Additionally, a desire to learn about Reinsurance as this role will likely evolve through time. The position reports to the Head of Claims, Reinsurance, London.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversight of high value UK primary losses in Casualty, Motor and Disease ensuring the highest quality of claims handling from our partners.
- Being able to assess policy coverage, fact investigation, loss evaluation, ensuring an appropriate claim resolution.
- Set and maintain appropriate and timely reserves in accordance with our guidelines.
- Ensuring that our claims handling partners (TPA's & MGA's) act within the scope of their contracts.
- Ensuring that our internal data and records is kept up to date and accurate.
- Keep Claims Management and other internal stakeholders aware of loss potential and material claim developments.
- Regularly provide information and insights about your claim portfolio to Claims Management and other internal stakeholders including Reserving / Actuarial teams.
- Keeping claims knowledge up to date and be able to recognise legal / regulatory developments and how they will affect the claims portfolio you are responsible for.
- Deal with reinsurance recoveries from other reinsurers.
- Connected and switched-on to the (re)insurance marketplace.
About You
We are seeking a curious, energetic, and confident problem solver who is proactive and eager to contribute across all areas of the Reinsurance business. The ideal candidate will be able to work both independently and collaboratively within the claims team, while also working closely with departments such as transactions and reserving. Educated to university degree-level or equivalent insurance or legal-based work experience (Professional insurance qualifications, or willingness to work towards achieving this). Solid Claims or Insurance Industry experience. Background working in the primary insurance market is preferred. Strong coverage, investigation, loss evaluation and claim valuation skills. Strong communication skills. Strong understanding of underwriting and other insurance functions and how they interact.
