Role Purpose
- Calculate on open market business for the bulk fleet voyage and/or T/C basis.
- Identify the customers and their needs.
- Conclude and execute best business in line with management guidance and targets.
- Develop the cargo book (spot and COA) within the guidelines set by the management team.
- Manage, develop and own relationships with cargo brokers and customers ensuring Swire Bulk can develop on and off market fixing/cargo opportunities.
Role Accountabilities
- Sourcing cargoes/employment:
- Communicate constantly with customers and brokers involved with Handy/Supra imports and export from the target region to secure voyage and T/C business.
- Manage information flows and external communications with market participants.
- Recognise key trades/cargo flows which match the Swire Bulk operating profile.
- Develop and expand relationships with cargo customers and brokers.
- Conclude business independently within price guidance from management team (Authority to fix up to USD 1M revenue).
- Calculate and execute business accurately, clearly, effectively and efficiently with zero errors.
- Communicate and own all negotiations and terms for booked cargoes.
- Measure and own financial accountability for all voyage calculations/business secured.
- Calculations and fixtures to be captured within the IMOS operating system with zero errors.
- Identify and develop arbitrage opportunities which can add value to the book.
- Manage, develop and expand relationships with customers and brokers.
- Develop an effective network – travelling in Asia and the Pacific to build and own customer relationships.
- Identify and communicate new trends, cargo routes, mines, processing locations, potential new customers and cargo sources/destinations.
- Approve all c/p’s with zero errors in order that same can be executed by management.
- In conjunction with the management team analyse, plan, and prepare the execution of the forward cargo book.
- Where necessary charter third party tonnage from the market to execute the cargo book maximising the financial success of the voyage whilst maintaining and managing operations excellence and expand enduring partnerships with customers.
- Analyse, manage and measure compliance with EEOI for any third party tonnage utilised.
- Manage, examine and own all necessary information in the IMOS operating system for incumbents voyages – communicating clearly any variances, and identifying solutions.
- Communicate with the operations department to ensure a smooth operation of all voyages/TCTs maximising revenue and profit.
- Challenge assumptions to maximise the efficiency of sea voyages (routing/slow steaming).
- Document correctly all negotiations.
- Manage in conjunction with the finance department freight payments, and that same are prepared accurately and communicated in a timely manner to customers.
- Liaise with operations (internal) on all parameters of the voyage to ensure smooth execution maximising financial success.
- Strictly implement procedures for executing fixtures/monitoring and reporting on vessel performances/communicate underlying variances.
- Strictly enforcing operating procedures in order to comply with the highest standards in Swire Bulk operating areas.
- Understand and communicate relevant information on changing legislation directly affecting Swire Bulk business from agents/ports/brokers/customers.
- Communicate with the technical/operational departments with regard to ‘owned’ voyages, and challenge fleet assumptions.
- Assist with preparation of weekly and monthly management reporting.
- Take responsibility for the safety of myself and those around me by displaying safety leadership principles (i.e. Safety I’s & Accountability ladder).
- Challenging and stopping unsafe acts and behaviours or unsafe conditions.
- Comply with the Global Safety Standards, Policies and Operating Procedures.
Key Qualifications & Skills
- Graduate of a recognised university (UK-Western Europe)/ Australia / NZ / North America).
- Minimum 3 years chartering experience in dry bulk (ideally with previous operations experience), and a full understanding of handy/supra bulk shipping.
