We, in Housing, are committed to creating safe, welcoming, and thriving communities where everyone feels they belong. Our Neighbourhood Warden team plays a vital role in building trust, maintaining clean and safe neighbourhoods, handling environmental issues and supporting residents to feel proud of where they live. As a Neighbourhood Warden, you'll be at the heart of that mission - working closely with other teams and services to ensure our neighbourhoods are places people are proud to call home.

What You'll Do

  • The Neighbourhood Warden role will deliver services across Council-owned properties.
  • The postholder will be required to carry out strenuous manual work, including lifting and loading of heavy items, and help maintain clean and safe neighbourhoods through physical work, inspection, observation, and interaction with other teams and agencies.
  • Postholders are required to deliver a friendly and customer-focused warden service to neighbourhoods, promoting respect for people, property, and the environment.
  • Provide a regular inspection service of communal areas in blocks of flats to check health and safety issues (including preventative fire safety, reporting all defects and/or repairs and ensuring timely follow-up) and compliance with tenancy agreements.
  • Remove any immediate hazards or fly tipping, and litter pick the immediate area.

What You'll Bring

  • Knowledge and experience of health and safety at work, especially manual handling, COSHH, and PPE.
  • Appreciation and understanding of Housing legislation including the Social Housing Regulation Act and the consumer standard.
  • You will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check.
  • You must hold a full driving licence and be required to drive Council vehicles such as cage tipper vans, Luton vans, and small and large transit vans.
  • You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act 'for the effective performance of a customer-facing role').

As an employee, you will receive a diverse and exciting environment in which to work, encouraging creativity and innovation whilst recognising the need to support ongoing personal development and a flexible work-life balance. For Swindon to thrive in the future, we need to lay the foundations now. It's why our regeneration and transformation programmes are already underway. You'll be joining us at an exciting time on our journey. We'll look to you to share your knowledge, influence decisions, and drive real, positive change. With your contributions, we'll achieve our vision of a prosperous, revitalised Swindon together. And you'll be proud to say it was made better with you.

Potential applicants are sometimes put off if they don't meet 100% of the requirements. We think individual experience, skills, and passion make all the difference, so if you meet the majority of the criteria, we'd love to hear from you.
