Swindell & Pearson Ltd., Trainee Patent Attorney β Materials/Chemistry
We have an exciting opportunity for a highβcalibre graduate with a background in materials science and/or chemistry to join our Derby office and train as a patent attorney.
The role will involve working with a variety of inventions in the fields of materials science and chemistry, alongside mechanical and, potentially, computational inventions. The chemistry work is likely to relate predominantly to materials rather than pharmaceutical chemistry/biochemistry.
We act for a diverse range of clients, from multinational corporations to national and local companies, as well as universities. We are committed to providing the highest quality intellectual property support and advice to these clients to enable them to achieve their aims. No two days are the same. On one day you might be advocating for the grant of a European patent at oral proceedings before the European Patent Office for a multinational client. On the next day you could be meeting a local client at their premises in preparation for writing a new patent specification.
Training as a patent attorney requires resilience, determination and commitment, given the nature of the work and the exams that one must pass in order to qualify. We strongly recommend that you investigate this before applying. The firm provides extensive support to its trainees. Details of our extensive and structured fee earner development programme can be found on our Become a Patent Attorney page on the Swindell & Pearson career site.
The successful candidate will be:
- able to communicate effectively in writing and in person;
- conscientious and capable of working to deadlines; and
- able to organise themselves.
We welcome applications from candidates who have obtained, or expect to obtain, at least a 2:1 degree. When applying, please provide details of your qualifications including A-Level grades (or equivalent) and GCSE grades (or equivalent) in at least science, maths and English language.
