Abingdon Vale Swimming Club (AVSC) in Oxfordshire is looking for enthusiastic Swimming Coaches to join our team as soon as reasonably possible. The successful candidates will enable our younger swimmers to master key swimming techniques and will help implement our competitive swimming programme.

We are a friendly and ambitious SwimMark-accredited club with 180 swimmers from ages 8-26 with an Academy and eight competitive squads. Our swimmers have a strong history of successfully competing in open meets, including County, Regional, National and British championships; and a variety of regional leagues and galas, including the West Midlands Premier division of the Arena League and Thames Valley Junior League. Our swimmers’ progression is also aided by a regular Club Champs programme.

The coaching team comprises 10 regular qualified coaches, including those with expertise in open water and land training. They are supported by an enthusiastic and proactive Committee. We are based primarily at Abingdon School, Oxfordshire, with excellent pool facilities, with the performance squads training regularly at long-course pools further afield in the build-up to major competitions.

AVSC is committed to safeguarding all our members. The successful candidate will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check and must have or attend the UK Coaching Safeguarding and Protecting Children course.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work as part of a dedicated team to deliver high-quality swim coaching to our junior squads
  • Assist in the organisation and development of the training programme where required, including the implementation of new strategies that align with the goals of the Club
  • Implement effective session plans appropriate for different age groups and skill levels
  • Provide clear instructions and constructive feedback to swimmers
  • Motivate and encourage swimmers to reach their full potential
  • Maintain a safe and positive learning environment, adhering to all pool safety and safeguarding regulations and the Club's code of conduct
  • Contribute to the coaching support of swimmers at competitions
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Swim England Swimming Coach Certificate/Level 2 Award (or equivalent)
  • Hold or be prepared to undertake qualifications in first aid and safeguarding, and continuing professional development to meet current Swim England requirements, including Wave Power
  • Enhanced DBS with barring check and right to work in the UK
  • A full driving licence to reach the required training and competition locations
