Rickmansworth Swim Club, based in the Rickmansworth area, has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Head Swimming Coach to lead, plan, and deliver a high-quality swimming programme that supports the development of swimmers at all levels, from grassroots upwards. The Head Swimming Coach will foster a positive and inclusive training environment, ensure athlete development, and uphold the values and vision of the club or organisation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coaching and Programme Delivery: Design and oversee the club’s training programme, ensuring age-appropriate development and progression. Plan and deliver sessions across various age and ability groups, with a focus on technique, fitness, and performance. Lead the performance squad and attend key competitions. Supervise and mentor assistant and volunteer coaches, ensuring consistency in delivery. Use evidence-based practices to assess and monitor swimmer progress.
  • Leadership and Management: Set and communicate clear expectations, goals, and values to coaches and swimmers. Support the development of assistant coaches, including continuing professional development (CPD) and formal qualifications. Manage and communicate squad structures, movements, and progression pathways. Liaise with parents, swimmers, and committee members as needed. Attend competitions. Lead the competition calendar planning in collaboration with the committee. Attend and support swimmers at key meets, including county, regional, and national events. Ensure swimmers are prepared and entries are submitted accurately and on time.
  • Safeguarding, Welfare, and Compliance: Ensure all activities follow Swim England’s Wavepower safeguarding guidance and relevant health and safety protocols. Maintain accurate attendance, medical, and performance records. Promote a safe and inclusive environment for all participants.
  • Administration and Communication: Collaborate with the committee/management to develop and implement the club’s vision and strategy. Communicate effectively with swimmers, parents, and staff via appropriate platforms. Attend club committee or management meetings as required.
Person Specification and Essential Requirements:
  • Minimum Swim England Swimming Coach Certificate/ASA Level 2 Coaching Award (or equivalent).
  • Proven experience coaching swimmers at club level and above.
  • Strong knowledge of long-term athlete development (LTAD).
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
  • Up-to-date safeguarding and DBS clearance.
  • First Aid qualification (or willingness to obtain).
Desirable:
  • Swim England Senior Swimming Coach Certificate/ASA Level 3 Coaching Award/UKCC.
  • Experience managing or mentoring other coaches.
  • Experience with performance analysis tools (e.g., video analysis, SwimCloud).
  • Understanding of strength and conditioning principles for youth athletes.

Working Hours: Typically includes early mornings, evenings, weekends, and attendance at swim meets.

Additional Information: The role requires an enhanced DBS check and adherence to all safeguarding policies. Opportunities for CPD and progression will be supported.
