Swim England, based in Loughborough, is seeking a strategic and driven National Health and Wellbeing Manager to lead the development and delivery of Swim England's swimming for health agenda across England. Swim England is the national governing body for swimming in England. We help people learn how to swim, enjoy the water safely, and compete in all our sports. Our vision is of a nation swimming and we strive to inspire everyone to enjoy the water in the way that suits them. We work with our partners to create engaging programmes that enable everyone to be active, have fun and stay healthy through swimming.

Based at SportPark, Loughborough (Minimum 2 days per week) plus occasional travel in the South of England, 35 hours a week (Mon-Fri).

About the Role

This role plays a critical part in positioning swimming as a key contributor to public health, working at the intersection of sport, health, and community development. You will lead on shaping policy, influencing key stakeholders, and driving programmes that increase participation among inactive populations and those with long-term health conditions. Working collaboratively with partners across government, the NHS, and the sport sector, you will champion inclusion, social prescribing, and evidence-based practice. Your work will help tackle health inequalities and ensure swimming is accessible, relevant, and impactful for diverse communities nationwide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Swim England's approach to swimming for health policy, influencing national stakeholders including Government, NHS and Sport England.
  • Develop and deliver strategies that position swimming as a tool to improve public health and wellbeing.
  • Build and manage strategic partnerships across public health, sport, and community sectors.
  • Support the development of inclusive swimming environments that engage inactive individuals and those with long-term conditions.
  • Drive the integration of social prescribing within swimming provision across priority communities.
  • Lead the development and delivery of national swimming for health programmes and initiatives.
  • Contribute to tackling inequalities by working with colleagues and partners in priority communities.
  • Establish and manage a network of public health experts to inform strategy and delivery.
  • Develop high-quality resources, guidance and tools for partners and stakeholders.
  • Support and contribute to research that strengthens the evidence base for swimming and health outcomes.
  • Lead the development and implementation of Swim England's Swimming and Health Commission.
  • Identify funding opportunities and secure investment to support programme delivery.
  • Ensure all activity aligns with safeguarding, welfare, equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI), and data protection standards.
  • Promote Swim England's values in all interactions.

Essential Qualifications

  • Proven experience leading health, inclusion, or physical activity programmes within sport, public health, or community sectors.
  • Strong understanding of public health systems and policy, including social prescribing, tackling inequalities, and long-term health conditions.
  • Experience in influencing and building partnerships with organisations such as the NHS, Government, and Sport England.
  • Ability to develop policy, advocate for change, and apply research and evidence to demonstrate impact.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including developing resources and reports for varied audiences.
  • Proven project and budget management skills, delivering outcomes on time and within scope.
  • Experience securing or supporting funding for health or community-based initiatives.
  • Strong commitment to inclusion, accessibility, and improving health outcomes through sport.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Postgraduate qualification in public health (or willingness to work towards).
