The Role: We are looking for a skilled CNC Turner to join our busy team, producing first-class precision engineered components for a global customer base supplying safety-critical parts to the nuclear, petrochemical, and aerospace markets. You will be responsible for setting and operating 3, 4 and 5 axis vertical and horizontal machining centres, playing a key role in delivering products on time and to the highest technical and quality standards. Both day and night shift positions are available.
What you'll be doing:
- Work to client specifications to produce manufactured parts, which requires machine operating skills, accuracy, and adherence to safety procedures.
- Setting up turning machines and positioning workpieces.
- Select, edit and run CNC turning programs.
- Monitoring the machining process (CNC lathes) to ensure smooth operation.
- Machining workpieces manually (manual lathe).
- Checking that finished workpieces meet all specified dimensions and tolerances.
- Performing routine maintenance on turning and tools.
- Set up, prepare, and operate CNC turning machines to perform tasks such as turning, drilling, milling (multi-axis), broaching, tapping, boring etc.
- Sets up machines for machining operations, selecting, and mounting the appropriate cutting tools and performing the required machining operations.
- Sets the machine parameters, selecting the appropriate CNC program (as required by the relevant technical specifications, stage of the production cycle or technical drawings), securing the workpiece, starting the machine and supervising machining operations.
- Understanding specifications of the task at hand and the desired result by reading blueprints, mechanical drawings etc.
- Translating instructions into computer commands so the machines can perform the correct function.
- Checks the workpiece using measuring instruments such as gauges, callipers, indicators, and micrometres and performing finishing operations.
- Performs routine and preventative maintenance and looks for potential problems such as a poorly fitting piece or an overworked machine.
- Prepares and loads raw materials and parts onto the machines.
- Prepares a test run to check if the machines produce outputs according to specifications.
- Sets machines to complete full cycles to fabricate large number of parts.
- Supervises the machines while they execute the tasks and make any necessary adjustments to produce a better result.
- Inspect and measure finished products and compare them with requirements to determine if the process has been completed properly.
- Checks and maintain machinery daily to ensure functionality.
- Translating the CAD files into code for machining.
About you:
- Proven experience as a CNC Turner (3, 4 and / or 5 axis).
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
- Competent in the use of precision measuring instruments.
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to the highest quality standards.
