Job Purpose: To delight the customer through the successful delivery of new and/or existing products shipped on time and manufactured to the highest technical and quality standards. Responsible for setting and operating 3, 4 and 5 axis vertical and horizontal machining centres in a busy workshop environment. To machine first class precision engineered components and parts for our global customer base supplying safety critical parts to the nuclear, petrochemical, and aerospace markets.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work to client specifications to produce manufactured parts, which requires machine operating skills, accuracy, and adherence to safety procedures.
- Set up milling machines and positioning workpieces.
- Select, edit and run CNC milling programs.
- Monitor the machining process (CNC mills) to ensure smooth operation.
- Machine workpieces manually (manual mills).
- Check that finished workpieces meet all specified dimensions and tolerances.
- Perform routine maintenance on milling machines and tools.
- Set up, prepare, and operate CNC milling machines to perform tasks such as drilling, milling, squaring, tapping, boring etc.
- Set up machines for milling operations, selecting, and mounting the appropriate cutting tools and performing the required milling operations.
- Set the machine parameters, selecting the appropriate CNC program (as required by the relevant technical specifications, stage of the production cycle or technical drawings), securing the workpiece, starting the machine and supervising machining operations.
- Understand specifications of the task at hand and the desired result by reading blueprints, mechanical drawings etc.
- Translate instructions into computer commands so the machines can perform the correct function.
- Checks the workpiece using measuring instruments such as gauges, callipers, indicators, and micrometres and performing finishing operations.
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance and look for potential problems such as a poorly fitting piece or an overworked machine.
- Prepare and load raw materials and parts onto the machines.
- Prepare tests run to check if the machines produce outputs according to specifications.
- Set machines to complete full cycles to fabricate large number of parts.
- Supervise the machines while they execute the tasks and make any necessary adjustments to produce a better result.
- Inspect and measure finished products and compare them with requirements to determine if the process has been completed properly.
- Check and maintain machinery daily to ensure functionality.
- Translate the CAD files into code for machining.
- Adhere to health and safety responsibilities at all times.
- Comply with policies and procedures.
