As an Industrial Placement Systems Engineer, you’ll join our Integrated Systems team, contributing to the design and development of Platform Management Systems (PMS) for the UK’s fleet of nuclear‑powered submarines. You’ll be part of a multi‑disciplined project team, supported by a dedicated mentor, buddy, project lead, and line manager throughout your 12‑month placement. This is your opportunity to gain hands‑on experience in defence technology, working on real‑world challenges that have national significance.
What you’ll be doing:
- Support Systems Engineering activities across the full lifecycle – from requirements to acceptance.
- Assist in delivering project SE outputs and continuous process improvements.
- Monitor task progress and report against agreed budgets and schedules.
- Apply approved plans, processes, and procedures to SE activities.
- Contribute to project reviews including design, risk, and change impact assessments.
- Support issue management and ensure compliance with safety and security regulations.
What we’re looking for:
- Working towards a degree in Electronics, Mechanical, Systems or Software Engineering.
- Understanding of Systems Engineering principles, including Verification and Validation.
- Familiarity with requirements management tools such as DOORS.
- Knowledge of verification methods and control systems.
- Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Visio, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Confident communicator, able to present to internal and external stakeholders.
