A challenging, stimulating and dynamic opportunity has arisen within Integration and System Validation (ISV) for a Ground Trials Engineer to join the FCAS/W team. The programme is entering a critical phase of expansion and thus looking for additional committed team members.

Salary: Circa £45,000 - £55,000 depending on experience

Dynamic (hybrid) working 3-5 days per week on-site due to workload classification.

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship. Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity:

The ISV Ground Trials Engineer carries out a range of technical, engineering and scientific activities. They will analyse, interpret and evaluate technical information, concepts and ideas. This specific role reports into the Ground Trials Team Lead and is primarily expected to contribute (applying existing knowledge, or input from senior team members, of underlying Ordnance Munitions and Explosives principles) to the development and implementation of long‑term system safety proving plans and test activities. The role involves working with various teams across MBDA and with UK, French and Italian national authorities. Joining the Ground Trials team includes additional opportunities to develop in and contribute towards other exciting test activities such as Electromagnetic Compatibility, Mechanical & Climatic or Engine test. This role would suit an engineer with practical experience looking to build on existing (or to develop new) skills on an important and significant future project with wide exposure to a variety of technical disciplines and teams.

Essential skills:

  • Ability to work autonomously or as part of a wider specialist team
  • Taking responsibility for the quality of work undertaken (deliver value to the team)
  • Proactive in finding solutions to problems (identifying improvements and proposing innovative ideas)
  • Ability to report/communicate technical aspects to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Useful (but not essential) experience:

  • Ordnance Munitions and Explosives trials and test (areas may include: mechanical/climatic, EMC, insensitive munitions, chemical analysis).
  • Knowledge and use of military safety regulations, policies and standards (particularly those relating to Safety and Suitability for Service).
  • Knowledge of safety assessment processes and risk management approaches.
  • Practical knowledge (mechanical, electrical or software) and/or in a trials/test environment (e.g. use of test equipment, process and procedures)
  • Project management processes (and how to incorporate into the work environment with a wide range of stakeholders)
