AtkinsRéalis is a global consultancy specialising in design, engineering and project management. The company’s Sustainable River Management team operates within the Water Management Consultancy group, delivering projects that improve river, wetland and catchment habitats across the United Kingdom and beyond.

Your responsibilities include supporting the delivery of catchment science projects with a focus on river and wetland functions. You will contribute to Water Framework Directive (WFD) compliance assessments, habitat design, restoration, Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) initiatives, river realignment and environmental impact assessments. You will liaise with internal and external project teams to achieve the best environmental outcomes and work collaboratively with environmental scientists, ecologists, engineers and planners.

Qualifications and experience: a degree in a relevant discipline with a postgraduate qualification in Water, Catchment Management or River Processes; proven experience in environmental surveys relating to river, wetland and catchment systems; a strong ability to conduct technical investigations, present findings and write concise, evidence‑based reports. The role requires numeracy, literacy and competence with IT and relevant software.

Desirable qualifications/skills:

  • Experience with GIS, Excel, VBA or Python
  • Knowledge of the Water Framework Directive and Biodiversity Net Gain principles
  • MoRPh PRO accreditation (desirable)
  • Valid driving licence and willingness to travel across the UK and occasionally overseas
