Clarke Energy is recruiting a Field Service Engineer to support customers across the Midlands, ensuring the reliability, efficiency and performance of gas engines and associated plant equipment. About the Role
Your role will focus on keeping customer sites operating safely and efficiently through high‑quality maintenance, fault finding and corrective works. You’ll deliver scheduled servicing, respond to breakdowns when required, and work proactively to minimise downtime and unnecessary cost.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Carry out planned and preventative maintenance to maximise engine availability and reliability
- Respond to out‑of‑hours callouts, diagnosing faults and restoring plant performance efficiently
- Collect, label and dispatch oil samples in accordance with agreed procedures
- Select, order and manage parts effectively, returning unused items to minimise waste
- Maintain accurate van stock and report shortages to the Area Manager
- Customer & Team Support
- Build strong, professional relationships with customers across the region
- Communicate clearly with the Area Manager, customers and subcontractors to ensure smooth site operations
- Complete service documentation accurately and within agreed timescales
- Tools & Equipment
- Maintain company tools and equipment to a high standard, ensuring cleanliness and calibration
- Uphold excellent site standards, presentation and housekeeping
- Supervision & Training
- Support apprentices and new starters through mentoring and on‑job guidance
- Health, Safety & Environment
- Work in full compliance with health, safety and environmental requirements at all times
What We’re Looking For
Technical Skills
- Strong engineering background with experience working on gas engines and associated systems
- Electrical and mechanical engineering capability
- Gas Safe registered
- Confident IT skills to support reporting and documentation
- Ability and willingness to coach and support others

Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Minimum of 5 years’ service engineering experience
- NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
- Apprentice‑trained engineer
- Full UK driving licence
- Willingness to travel across the Midlands, work unsociable hours and stay away from home when required
Desirable
- Experience working on gas engines
- Gas Safe registration
- Knowledge of CHP or power generation environments
