The Field Service Engineer delivers expert technical support across a range of Naval vessels in the Portsmouth area, ensuring safe, efficient, and professional execution of all GE Field Service operations.

This role exists to primarily provide high‑quality field engineering support for Naval taskings, whilst also contributing to wider Field Service activities across Industry and Marine & Offshore sectors.

As a key member of the Portsmouth team, the Field Service Engineer plays a vital part in maintaining the smooth, safe, and professional delivery of GE’s services within a high‑profile and demanding environment.

Reporting to the Field Service Engineering Manager, the position offers diverse technical challenges, opportunities to travel as required, and excellent long‑term career growth within GE.

  • Ensure a safe working environment by rigorously following all Company and Customer EHS standards.
  • Deliver high‑quality engineering work across maintenance, repairs, upgrades and at‑sea support, keeping Naval vessels fully operational and mission‑ready.
  • Diagnose complex technical issues and implement effective repairs that enhance system performance and reliability.
  • Take ownership of work packages from planning through completion, collaborating closely with customers and GE teams to deliver successful outcomes.
  • Provide trusted technical support, acting as a key problem‑solver for both customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative service solutions that improve efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Produce clear technical reports and documentation, supporting continuous improvement across vessels and shore‑based facilities while adapting to the flexible working patterns required by the role.

  • Holds an HNC (or equivalent) in electrical engineering.
  • Communicates clearly in both written and verbal form, with strong proficiency in standard office software.

  • Already possesses or is able to obtain Mo D Security Clearance.
  • Self‑motivated, safety‑conscious, and capable of working independently in dynamic and challenging environments.
