Overview Depop is a peer-to-peer circular fashion marketplace.
We are looking for a UK-based Engineering Manager to lead the Search Retrieval squad, focused on improving the relevance of search and delivering high-quality features and experiments on the search engine to impact key purchasing metrics.
Responsibilities Deliver value and drive results by ensuring the team provides high-quality solutions that meet business needs and create measurable value.
Lead and support a cross-functional team of 3-6 engineers; stay hands-on when appropriate while enabling the team to perform at their best.
Foster growth and feedback through regular coaching, 1:1s, and career development support.
Collaborate across functions (marketing, analytics, engineering, product) to align goals, priorities, and smooth cross-functional work.
Build an inclusive culture that promotes health, inclusion, diversity, learning, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications Proven track record as an Engineering Manager growing high-performing engineers, teams, and processes.
Experience as an individual contributor or leader in the Search domain.
Experience working with Machine Learning and Data Science teams; collaboration with Design and Product to build rich user experiences.
Ability to work across the full stack and connect backend and frontend to uphold high engineering standards.
Strong ownership, delivery focus, and ability to tackle complex problems with high-quality features.
Strong decision-making with data-informed judgment; ability to handle changing priorities simply and deliver.
Stakeholder management skills and ability to drive cross-disciplinary collaboration and positive change.
Alignment with the Depop DNA and sustainability-minded thinking.
Preferred (Bonus) Familiarity with search technologies such as Open Search, Elasticsearch, Vespa.
Familiarity with observability, tracking, and data pipeline tools and methodologies.
