Summary
This role plays a central part in shaping the strategy for Swift’s digital assets initiatives, including the Swift Ledger. The Strategy Lead will help define what problems we are solving, why they matter to banks, and how Swift’s digital-asset capabilities should evolve over time, grounding strategic thinking in real-world banking economics and cross-border payment dynamics.
About the Digital Assets Business Unit
The Digital Assets Business Unit is leading the design and development of the Swift Ledger and overseeing all Swift’s digital-asset initiatives. The core mission is to secure coalition alignment, deliver a live MVP by 2026, achieve adoption and buy-in across the ecosystem, and define the roadmap, operating model, and five-year plan to scale Swift’s digital-asset capabilities as the foundation of a 24/7, multi-asset, cross-border network.
About the Role
This role will work closely with senior leadership and product teams to support strategic definition across the Swift Ledger and broader digital-asset initiatives. The Strategy Lead sits at the intersection of cross-border payments, liquidity and treasury considerations, and emerging digital-asset infrastructure. The focus is on developing clear strategic perspectives, use-case prioritization, and value propositions that reflect how banks assess liquidity, risk, operational change, and return on investment. This is a hands-on role with exposure to senior stakeholders. You will be expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy on analysis and framing, while partnering with more senior leaders for direction-setting and final decisions.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain structured strategic perspectives on Swift’s digital asset initiatives, including the Swift Ledger and related initiatives.
- Support definition of use case prioritization, strategic roadmap definition, and sequencing beyond initial MVP delivery.
- Articulate bank-centric value propositions grounded in liquidity efficiency, funding considerations, operational risk reduction, and balance sheet impacts.
- Partner with product and engineering teams to translate strategy into concrete design inputs, trade-offs, and prioritization choices.
- Prepare executive-ready materials, including strategy briefs, decision papers, and investment cases.
- Analyze market and industry developments across digital assets, tokenized deposits, stablecoins, and settlement models, and assess implications for Swift’s positioning.
- Pressure-test ideas and narratives from the perspective of different bank profiles (global banks, correspondents, regionals, FMIs).
- Help ensure consistency between near-term MVP delivery and longer-term strategic ambition.
Competencies
- Strategic thinker with strong analytical discipline: able to frame complex, ambiguous problems and develop clear, defensible points of view.
- Commercially grounded in banking economics: understands how banks evaluate liquidity, funding, risk, and operating-model change.
- Clear and credible communicator: able to translate complex strategic and technical concepts into concise narratives for senior audiences.
- Collaborative integrator: works effectively across strategy, product, technology, and engagement teams without operating in silos.
- Structured and outcome-oriented: able to drive clarity, prioritization, and decision support in fast-moving environments.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and change: adapts quickly as priorities, inputs, and constraints evolve.
What We Are Looking For
- “A yes-and” mindset: focused on progress and building on top of others’ ideas.
- Curiosity and motivation to build expertise in emerging digital asset and payment models.
- Comfort with ambiguity and rapid change: objectives may shift weekly, and you must adapt quickly.
- Collaborative: able to work across multiple disciplines and teams, adding value to every discussion and iteration.
- Problem-solving agility: capable of designing solutions across strategy, product, tech, and operational dimensions.
- Iterates quickly: build, test, and refine solutions weekly based on priorities and feedback.
- Versatile skill set – experience across consulting, strategy, product management.
Qualifications
- 6–8 years of experience in banking, payments, fintech, consulting, or a related field.
- Exposure to cross-border payments, transaction banking, treasury, liquidity management, or correspondent banking strongly preferred.
- Experience with, or strong interest in, digital assets, blockchain, tokenization, or stablecoins is a meaningful plus.
- Demonstrated ability to produce structured analysis and influence decision-making through clear recommendations.
- Experience working with senior stakeholders and contributing to executive-level materials.
