Our prestigious client based in Cheltenham is a specialist engineering company supplying advanced blasting machinery, automation systems, and on-site support services to the Aerospace and Industrial sectors across the UK, Europe, and beyond. Due to business demands we are now looking to expand our technical team.
The Role
We are looking for a Mechanical Field Service Engineer to join our team. You will play a key role in maintaining and installing a wide range of industrial plant and automated machinery both at our customers' sites and within our own facilities. This is a hands-on, customer-facing role that offers variety, autonomy, and international travel. You will diagnose and resolve mechanical issues, carry out planned maintenance, and lead installation and upgrade projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out preventive and reactive maintenance across customer equipment and internal systems.
- Assist in machine installations, commissioning, and calibration.
- Provide technical support and fault diagnosis across a wide range of industrial equipment.
- Take ownership of compliance documentation and maintenance record keeping.
- Support and improve existing maintenance procedures and schedules.
- Manage small projects independently.
- Contribute to continuous improvement across service and maintenance operations.
What We Are Looking For
Essential:
- NVQ Level 3 Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent), or proven field service engineering background, or Mechanical Fitter / Plant Fitter / Maintenance Engineer experience.
- Full UK driving licence and valid passport (with no restrictions on international travel).
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills on mechanical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics.
- Confident communicator, able to liaise with customers and internal teams effectively.
- Self-starter who can work independently and manage own workload.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Desirable:
- Exposure to automated machinery or PLC-controlled systems (advantageous but not essential).
- Experience in machine installation, commissioning, or calibration.
- Flexible and adaptable approach, willing to cross-train between mechanical and electrical disciplines.
- Experience of staying away national and international work.
