SWIFT Temps Ltd Driving Recruitment Division are currently recruiting for experienced Class 1 Driver to work for the local authority in Leeds for the Highways Department, LS10 area of Leeds.

About the Role

  • To drive a class 1 vehicle for the highways maintenance department.
  • To be responsible for providing a safe, efficient, and effective highway construction, maintenance and winter service, which meets the needs of the citizens of Leeds.
  • To deal with members of the public in a polite and courteous manner.
  • Follow disposal site/recycling plant rules when tipping off, this includes going to the allocated sites for tipping off or alternatives as directed.
  • Ability to drive and manoeuvre rigid demountable-bodied vehicles and operate auto sheeting mechanisms.
  • Assist with the installation, maintenance, and removal of traffic management measures in accordance with 'Chapter 8' and Safety at Street Works and Road Works code of practice.
  • Assist with the laying of kerbs, edgings, block paving and flag paving.
  • Assist with the placing, spreading and compaction of granular, recycled and bituminous materials.
  • Assist with excavation operations both by hand and using mechanical excavators, including acting as banksman to ensure the operation is carried out safely.
  • Operating of small plant including, vibrating rollers, vibrating plates, compressors, cut-off saws, road saws.
  • Winter Service operations- driving of gritting vehicle equipped with snow plough, on a rota basis, both in and out of normal working hours.

Qualifications & Training Required

  • LGV Licence Class C+E (HGV Class 1).
  • Of Drivers’ Hours Rules, both GB Domestic and EU Tachograph rules.
  • Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) to drive a lorry.
  • Subject to passing driver assessment.
  • Awareness of the current Highway Code.
  • Health and Safety legislation related to construction work.
  • Ability to identify and report vehicle defects.
  • Ability to use mobile phones and other in-cab technology.
  • Ability to learn new information and instructions.

Working hours

  • Monday to Thursday 7:30am to 3:30pm.
  • Friday 7:30am to 3pm.

Pay

£15.00 PAYE. In addition you will also accrue holiday pay.
