The Regulatory Legal team (sitting in the wider Regulatory Affairs team within Legal & Compliance) is looking for a regulatory counsel with the prime mission of ensuring that Swift monitors, tracks, assesses and implements regulatory change across the jurisdictions where it operates. The regulatory counsel will collaborate closely with and provide daily support to the other members of the Regulatory Legal team and the wider Regulatory Affairs. They will also interact on a regular basis with other members of Legal & Compliance, Risk Management, Information Technology, Operations and Audit as well as with other business leaders in the regional divisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain internal contacts to understand the company’s business and technology, including the company’s challenges and requirements.
  • Review (and actively follow up) regulations in fields that are relevant to Swift in countries where Swift operates, assess whether those regulations are applicable to Swift and support the business in designing the response to the relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Provide continuous support to the business during regulatory change projects, providing legal interpretation of regulatory requirements and helping to achieve a proportionate compliance response to regulation.
  • Provide support for the delivery of an effective and sustainable companywide regulation monitoring and regulatory change framework.
  • Support the wider Regulatory Affairs team in creating, delivering and maintaining an effective communication program to heighten awareness of applicable and upcoming regulation.
  • Assist in the maintenance of an up-to-date regulatory register, which tracks the regulatory initiatives the team monitors.

Qualifications

  • Be a lawyer in your jurisdiction (1-3 PQE) with substantial experience in regulation gained at a leading firm regulatory practice or in-house. For those with a private practice background, a client secondment would be a distinct advantage.
  • Be able to demonstrate solid experience advising on wholesale regulations: regulatory fields relevant for the role will be any of FMI, payments, data (including data privacy and info security), technology, financial services (including securities) and adjacent domains.
  • Experience in cryptocurrency regulation would be an asset.
  • Be comfortable navigating through EU and non-EU regulations, distilling complex legal requirements into effective operational solutions.
  • Have experience in large-scale regulatory change projects (ideally cross-border), technology transformation projects and/or authorisations.
  • Be able to handle projects (with supervision as needed) and manage deadlines.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment, in addition to excellent oral and written communication.
  • Be able to understand the legal solution within the wider picture and keen to become a more rounded business adviser.
  • Have experience performing gap and risk assessments, developing and implementing solutions to meet today’s requirements and future business needs.
  • Be able to adapt to changing regulatory landscapes and business needs.
