Job Description: In the scope of this Internship, you will patch and apply security‑driven updates for our RHEL departmental systems that support monthly data measurement, performance data warehousing, and automated report processing. Working closely with a team member, you will perform operating‑system upgrades on virtual machines, replace obsolete software components, create and maintain Podman container images, adapt Python, Perl, and PHP scripts to newer releases, and migrate databases and jobs from obsolete to updated virtual machines.
Responsibilities:
- Review and inventory processes, jobs, databases, and Podman containers on our RHEL Linux systems.
- Perform operating‑system upgrades and software package upgrades as recommended by the security department.
- Roll back upgrades in case of issues.
- Test and understand constraints and differences when running processes on upgraded systems.
- Adapt scripts in Python, Perl, shell, PHP, and other languages to new environment dependencies.
- Build and manage Podman container images; start and stop containers as needed.
- Verify that upgraded systems run as expected and integrate properly with other environment systems.
- Assist a senior team member in rewriting a web‑based data charting tool using Bokeh and other open‑source components.
- Review potential resiliency and data replication schemes for MariaDB databases.
- Test selected replication and recovery processes and begin implementation.
Qualifications:
- Computer Science or related discipline, with a focus on computer system architecture and administration.
- Practical knowledge of Unix/Linux operating systems and commands.
- Experience with scripting and data processing languages, primarily Python, with shell and Perl; PHP is a plus.
- Knowledge of containerization technologies; Docker or Podman is a plus.
- Experience administering MySQL or MariaDB is a plus.
- Experience with Ansible Automation Platform is a plus.
