ACCOUNTABLE TO: Night Senior Care Assistant / Manager / Assistant Manager
JOB SUMMARY (DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES):
- To assist with supporting residents for bed, according to their wishes and needs.
- To receive and act upon instructions from Senior Care staff regarding specific tasks to be carried out during the night.
- To carry out regular and record checks on residents throughout the night, according to intervals set by Senior Care staff and with due regard to residents' individual wishes.
- To answer promptly all nurse alarm calls, assessing each situation and dealing with any resident who is seeking help. In cases of emergency, to inform Senior Care staff and if necessary to call the emergency GP and/or summon an ambulance.
- To assist residents who need help or reassurance, providing light drinks or refreshments where required. Monitoring intake and reporting any concerns to the Senior in charge.
- To carry out regular checks on the building, with particular reference to fire prevention and external security (all windows and external doors secured etc).
- To awaken residents in the morning at their requested times, as appropriate. Assisting residents with bathing, washing, dressing, feeding, using the toilet and other aspects of personal care where necessary, and proceed to the living areas if requested.
- To read and write reports, and to participate in staff and residents' meetings as appropriate.
- To undertake other duties, as necessary, including household tasks e.g., polishing, hoovering and general tidying of lounge, dining rooms and the kitchen, any other duties as and when required.
- To report any accidents or unexplained injuries immediately to the Senior in charge.
- To pay due respect to residents' possessions and to ensure that bedrooms and communal areas are tidy and presentable.
- To be resourceful in the use of supplies.
- To work at all times, within the guidelines of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, employee handbook and company health and safety policies and procedures.
- To be aware of all fire exit means of escape from the home.
- To complete all company health and safety and fire checks as requested.
- To ensure readiness to commence work at the time stated on the duty rota and not to abandon duty without permission from the manager or senior in charge.
- To adhere to the policy relating to personal appearance and the uniform policy whilst on duty.
- To ensure that articles for laundry are sluiced if soiled before placing into correct container.
- To read and implement the company policy and procedure for infection control.
- To ensure the appropriate segregation of waste material that it is disposed of in accordance with current legislation and company policy and procedure for infection control.
- To report to the senior in charge any changes in a resident's condition and any other relevant matter, noting especially any changes in skin condition.
- To report to the senior in charge any verbal concerns or complaints raised by resident or visitor.
- To recognise your own caring limitations and to seek guidance from the Manager or senior staff as appropriate.
- To refer all enquiries regarding the care or condition of residents to senior staff irrespective of the source of the enquiry.
- To respect the rights of the residents including privacy and dignity.
- Complete all food and fluid charts and any other monitoring records as requested.
- To abide by all company policies and procedures in accordance with the staff handbook and policy and procedure file.
- To participate in social activities with residents and to use all interactions with residents as an opportunity for stimulation/occupation.
- To report any concerns regarding possible abuse of residents immediately to the senior in charge.
- To respect the confidentiality of the residents and the home life at all times.
- All staff must attend mandatory training as required by current CQC regulations. Additional training will be offered to staff to further enhance their knowledge in a particular role.
