Swi-tch is recruiting for a global publishing brand undergoing a major technology transformation. This organisation operates at significant scale, employing a large UK workforce and delivering a high volume of digital and physical content each year. The business is in the midst of an evolving technology journey, modernising its platforms to support growth, agility and innovation across its operations. They are now seeking an experienced SAP Development Lead to join their Technology function at a pivotal point in their SAP roadmap.

This is a senior, hands-on leadership role with responsibility across both business-as-usual delivery and strategic project work. Reporting into a senior technology leader, you will take ownership of SAP application development and technical delivery. You will play a key role in shaping development strategy and guiding the transition from on-premise SAP ECC to cloud-based S/4HANA and SAP BTP. This role combines technical depth with people leadership. You will remain close to the detail while setting standards, providing governance and leading an offshore development capability to ensure high-quality, consistent delivery.

Key responsibilities
  • Lead the SAP Development capability, including oversight and management of an offshore development team, ensuring alignment to wider business and IT strategy
  • Take end-to-end accountability for SAP solution design, build, testing, deployment and support
  • Work closely with business users, functional consultants and technical teams to translate requirements into scalable SAP solutions
  • Deliver development across BAU support, enhancements and project work
  • Design and build SAP ABAP Cloud and UI5 within SAP Business Application Studio
  • Develop and support IDOC interfaces
  • Partner with SAP Business Analysts to document technical requirements, recommend solutions and identify downstream process impacts
  • Own resource planning and task allocation across the development team
  • Provide hands-on support for production issues, including debugging, root cause analysis and resolution
  • Mentor and develop SAP developers, promoting best practice and continuous improvement
  • Provide out-of-hours support for key go-lives or upgrades when required
  • Work within a service management environment, engaging with ticketing and support processes
What you’ll bring
  • Deep, current expertise in SAP ABAP development and best practice, including performance and security
  • Strong experience across modern SAP technologies, including SAP Cloud Integration and Workflow Management
  • Proven delivery of Fiori applications using SAP Business Application Studio and UI5
  • Experience leveraging low-code / no-code platforms to accelerate delivery
  • Solid understanding of Agile delivery methodologies
  • Extensive experience across RICEFW developments
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills across ABAP and Java
  • Excellent understanding of object-oriented programming principles
  • Demonstrated experience leading SAP development teams as a technical lead
  • Exposure to full lifecycle SAP implementations, upgrades and post-go-live support
  • Proven ability to mentor and cross-train developers
  • Hands-on experience designing, testing and troubleshooting SAP workflows
