SWG Construction is a growing regional main contractor delivering high-quality new-build and refurbishment projects across Wales and the West Midlands. We’re looking for an experienced Site Manager from a general contracting background, comfortable delivering traditional and design & build projects, who is ready to operate at a senior level and progress into a Senior Site Manager role as the business continues to grow.
This role suits a capable, hands-on Site Manager who already takes full ownership of their sites and is seeking greater responsibility, autonomy, and long-term progression within a supportive regional contractor.
About SWG Construction
We deliver new-build residential and refurbishment projects across the public and private sectors, including social and affordable housing, supported living and specialist accommodation. We hold ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, and are accredited with CHAS and Constructionline Gold. With offices in Welshpool and Wolverhampton, we value our people, champion quality, and are committed to safety, sustainability and continuous improvement.
The Role
Reporting to a Contracts Manager, you will manage day-to-day site activities from pre-start through to completion, ensuring programme, cost, quality and H&S objectives are achieved. You’ll act as the senior on-site presence, coordinating subcontractors, liaising with clients and consultants, and contributing to the smooth delivery of projects. As the business grows, there is a clear opportunity to step into a Senior Site Manager position, supporting multiple sites or mentoring junior team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead site teams from mobilisation through to handover, including pre-start meetings
- Plan and manage programmes, short-term look-aheads and sequencing; monitor progress and KPIs
- Maintain high standards of health & safety in line with company policies (RAMS, inductions, permits, inspections, toolbox talks and incident reporting)
- Drive quality through inspections, snag management and timely sign-off
- Coordinate labour, materials, plant and subcontractors; manage ordering, delivery and reconciliation
- Liaise with clients, consultants and statutory bodies to support approvals and inspections
- Support commercial control alongside the QS/Commercial team, including variations and value protection
- Maintain robust site records, diaries, reports, RFIs, O&M manuals and H&S files
- Uphold the Considerate Constructors Scheme and manage positive community and neighbour relations
- Manage environmental controls, waste management and sustainability measures
- Work closely with procurement, buying and commercial teams to align site needs
- Provide visible, consistent leadership aligned with SWG values: safety, responsibility, quality and respect
- Set clear expectations for site teams and subcontractors; lead regular briefings
- Support and mentor junior Site Managers, engineers, apprentices and trainees
- Foster a positive, solution-focused culture with proactive issue resolution
What You’ll Bring
- Proven experience working for a general or regional main contractor, delivering projects under traditional and design & build procurement routes
- Strong track record delivering new-build residential projects (social/affordable housing, supported living, key-worker or student accommodation advantageous)
- SMSTS and First Aid at Work (essential); Asbestos Awareness and Fire Marshal (desirable)
- Good working knowledge of UK H&S legislation, quality systems and temporary works (TWS/TWC desirable)
- Highly organised, proactive and calm under pressure, with confident client-facing skills
- Comfortable using digital tools, including Microsoft 365 and site reporting systems
- Full UK driving licence and right to work in the UK
What We Offer
- Competitive salary plus car allowance and mileage
- 33 days’ holiday (including bank holidays) and company pension scheme
- EV salary-sacrifice scheme (post-probation)
- Funded training, certifications and clear progression to Senior Site Manager
- A supportive, family-feel culture where good leadership is recognised and valued
