The Security Support Officer plays a pivotal role in strengthening the Trust's security operations by providing flexible, proactive, and highly organised support to the Security Manager. The post holder oversees day-to-day security incident management, CCTV operations, alarm systems, access control, lone-worker safety, and compliance activities across the Trust. They act as a key contact for staff affected by security-related incidents, ensuring timely follow-up, accurate documentation, and sensitive handling of confidential information. The role includes monitoring and reviewing security incidents, managing digital evidence, maintaining sanctions and access records, supporting governance reporting, and ensuring operational readiness of critical security systems. The post holder also contributes to major security programmes such as Body Worn Video, Protect Duty (Martyn's Law) preparations, and the Soft Services Security Contract. Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities are essential. The role requires professionalism, discretion, and confidence in handling sensitive information, alongside proficiency in Microsoft Office and secure digital systems. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to meet service needs.
Main duties of the job include:
- Acting as a flexible resource to support the Security Manager in any aspect of Security related matters.
- Monitoring all Trust and Company security incidents, ensuring initial review and staff contact within 48 hours.
- Following up with staff affected by physical assault, racial abuse, sexual abuse, threats, or verbal aggression.
- Maintaining monthly sanctions spreadsheets and the Trust's Sanctions Register.
- Ensuring alerts are placed on Lorenzo, EMIS, and future EPR systems.
- Supporting data extraction, trend analysis, and reporting for governance groups.
- Reviewing and retrieving CCTV footage for all reported incidents.
- Preparing and uploading CCTV evidence for Police investigations, ensuring chain of custody compliance.
- Monitoring CCTV system performance, camera functionality, and coverage gaps.
- Tracking contracted maintenance visits and escalating missed or overdue work.
- Assisting with risk assessments for new camera locations.
- Maintaining oversight of intruder alarm maintenance programmes.
- Developing and maintaining a centralised alarm code register.
- Creating and managing a digital access code records system.
- Supporting review of alarm activations and system performance.
- Administering lone worker devices, including onboarding, allocation, and incident reporting.
- Liaising with the device provider to resolve faults and replacements.
- Supporting compliance with the national VPRS framework.
- Assisting with evidence gathering, audits, documentation updates, and action tracking.
- Supporting delivery of the monthly Trust wide induction, presenting the security section via Microsoft Teams.
- Maintaining and updating staff induction materials.
- Uploading monthly CCTV access control images for quarterly CWPS audits.
- Maintaining secure records of mortuary access permissions and audit trails.
- Assisting the Security Manager in the monitoring of the new Soft Services Contract for Security.
- Supporting the Security Manager in the trial and rollout of Body Worn Cameras for A&E staff.
- Acting as part of the Trust's Data Controller function for Body Worn Video.
- Managing footage requests, downloads, redactions, and disclosures.
- Supporting the Security Manager in preparation for Martyn's Law compliance.
- Assisting the Security Manager with Protect Duty risk assessments and evidence gathering.
- Providing administrative support to the Security Manager, scheduling meetings, appointments, calendars, taking minutes, and booking rooms.
The list of duties is not exhaustive, and the post holder may be required to undertake additional duties to meet the requirements of the service, including working some evening and weekend shifts.
Person Specification:
- Qualifications: GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Maths; Strong IT literacy (Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, Outlook); Evidence of administrative training/experience; NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration, Security, or related field; Basic knowledge of security systems (CCTV, access control).
- Experience: Previous experience in an administrative or coordination role; Experience managing databases, records, and documentation; Experience dealing with confidential and sensitive information; Experience communicating with a range of stakeholders (staff, public, external agencies); Experience within a security or facilities environment; Experience of incident logging systems (e.g. Datix or similar); Experience scheduling rotas, meetings, or resource allocation; Experience supporting audits, compliance, or reporting processes.
