Portering Team Leader in Warwick

We are seeking an enthusiastic person to join our Portering support team to provide leadership and support for Porters and Operational Orderly’s, based in Radiology and Theatres. You will be expected to have a good level of education and be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of computerised software such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. You will be expected to have a good understanding in leading teams, preferably in Portering; however, experience in other similar fields can be accepted. The candidate should be able to work in a calm, logical and methodical way and be able to multi-task. They should also demonstrate an adaptable, flexible approach to work both within a team as well as being able to use their own initiative.

The role of the Portering Team Leader is to lead, supervise, and coordinate the portering team in delivering a safe, efficient, professional, and responsive patient, staff, equipment, and goods transportation service across the Trust. The Portering Team Leader is responsible for ensuring high standards of service delivery, compliance with Trust policies, patient dignity, health and safety requirements, and the effective day-to-day management of portering staff to support clinical and non-clinical operations.

Main duties of the job include:

• Leading all aspects of the daily operations of the area/areas by providing an excellent customer focused service.
• Supervision and administration of the porters and ODO’s designated within Radiology and Theatres.
• Managing and maintaining adequate staffing levels by coordinating, liaising and producing all staff duties/rosters.
• Dealing with complex, emotional, and confidential facts and situations that may require difficult decisions.
• Assisting in the creation and reviewing of policies and departmental procedures.
• Undertaking incident reporting and investigation, disciplinary, sickness absence, health & safety, and moving and handling investigations.
• Identifying and undertaking all types of risk assessments.
• Providing an efficient and effective response to deal with day-to-day enquiries and complaints.
• Managing own diary ensuring that all meetings, hearings, staff/management one-to-ones are attended in a timely fashion.
• Assisting in the design and implementation of all bespoke departmental training courses.
• Attending all mandatory and other job specific training as required.
• Arranging and attending team/department meetings on a regular basis.
• Providing short-term cover for colleagues during periods of leave.

Qualifications required include:

• Minimum A Level or NVQ Level 3 or appropriate experience in a similar role.
• Specific Facilities Management / Logistics Qualification to NVQ Level 3 or higher.

Experience required includes:

• Previous experience in dealing with a large workforce.
• Previous experience in dealing with patients and public.
• Supervisory or first line management experience within Service areas.

Skills required include:

• Ability to take reports and integrate across various other platforms.
• Self-motivated and able to work without supervision.
• Able to prioritise instructions and work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
• Ability to communicate both written and verbally with other staff, Trust employees, patients and public.

Personal qualities include:

• Leadership skills to develop support within the wider peer group.
• Flexible approach to working hours.
