The predicted salary is between 24000 - 30000 £ per year.

A position has become available working in our Caf Lomas within Stratford Hospital, with the possible need to work on our ward doing patient feeding and helping with domestic cleaning duties. The successful applicant will help prepare and sell food and drinks for patients, visitors and staff. They will need to deliver a high-quality catering service, maintaining a clean and safe environment in accordance with the specification. This role is 30 hours, to be discussed at the interview.

Main duties of the job:

  • Caf Lomas is a healthy living, community-focused food and drink provider situated in Building One Stratford Hospital.
  • The post holder will prepare and sell food and beverage items for patients, visitors and staff in our retail area of Caf Lomas.
  • To provide a high-quality catering service both in the Caf and patient feeding and domestic service, maintaining a clean and safe environment in accordance with the specification.

Job responsibilities:

  • Main duties will be undertaken within the Caf Lomas but due to the needs of the service you may be required to work within the domestics and/or patient feeding.
  • Working with the team to ensure the smooth and successful day-to-day running of Caf Lomas.
  • Preparation of menu items in readiness of service times.
  • Freshly prepare and serve food to order.
  • Support the Caf Lomas Coordinator and team with day-to-day administration including: cash handling using an EPOS till and card machine, ordering and receiving supplies and retail stock.
  • To follow the monitoring systems as detailed in the HACCP.
  • To ensure good stock rotation and the security of said stock.
  • To adhere to the cleaning schedule and to ensure clean as you go rules are followed, ensuring the kitchen and front of house are always clean and tidy.
  • To report discovered defects within the Caf Lomas area.
  • Use of equipment including the electronic cash register and coffee barrister machine, adhering to training given and standing financial instructions.
  • To provide a polite and courteous service and always be aware of the customers' needs and special requirements such as allergens.
  • To monitor and collate customer requests and feedback using the documentation as instructed.
  • Oversee the work of volunteers, delegating tasks as appropriate.
  • To report any injury or accident to self or others to the Caf Lomas Coordinator.
  • To be aware of the conditions associated with a working kitchen, physical, hot and exposed to dirt, dust and noise. Always wearing PPE.
  • Ensure all work procedures are in line with the good practice of The South Warwickshire NHS Trust and data protection rules are adhered to.
  • To adhere to all Trust policy, Food Hygiene Policy and associated codes of practice and Food Hygiene legislation.
  • Food preparation area ensuring patient meals are made ready and collated together in readiness for transport to the wards.
  • Required to manoeuvre and transport trollies of food products and lift large, heavy boxes of food products.
  • Staff will be exposed to cold temperatures when retrieving food products from fridges and freezers.
  • We will give you full training, so experience is not necessary. What we do want is individuals who will demonstrate excellent service and understand how important their role is in contributing to a patient receiving an excellent experience in hospital.

Cleaning:

  • You will be using a variety of cleaning materials; you will also be required to manoeuvre trollies containing cleaning equipment as well as mechanical cleaning equipment.
  • Cleaners maintain the standards of cleanliness and hygiene expected by our client at the Hospital.
  • To maintain clean and safe equipment in accordance with the specification and to be responsive to service needs as they arrive.
  • These duties will be carried out both in patient and non-patient environments and may also entail specialised cleaning tasks.
  • To be responsive to service needs as they arise and to constantly seek to improve the productivity and quality of the service.
  • All work must be undertaken in line with health, safety, security and Company and Trust policies and procedures, including infection control.
  • The post holder may work in an environment where they could be exposed to sensitive circumstances.

Knowledge skills and experience required:

  • Customer service experience face to face and via the telephone.
  • Ability to communicate effectively within a team.
  • Ability to monitor and collate data efficiently.
  • Experience of keeping accurate records for audit on orders, deliveries, cleaning, food hygiene related systems and food waste.
  • Knowledge of food hygiene measured by the Level 2 in food hygiene plus ongoing refresher training.
  • Health & Safety at work.
  • Knowledge of COSHH.
  • Epos Till System.
  • Awareness of food allergies and dietary requirements and able to confidently access this information.
  • A genuine interest in food and nutrition and working in a busy community setting.
  • Ability to bake and sound knowledge of cooking procedures.

  • To ensure compliance with all Company policies, procedures and statutory regulations including human resources, site rules, Health & Safety, safe working practices, hygiene, cleanliness, fire and COSHH. This will include your awareness of any specific hazards in your workplace.

  • Close working relationships with SWFT Clinical Services.
  • All levels of staff, patients and visitors.

Person Specification:

  • Qualifications: Health and Safety, Nutrition and allergen knowledge, NVQ Catering.
  • Experience: Previous experience of simple food and drink preparation and service, Knowledge of Health and Safety and COSHH, Ability to work independently and manage appropriate workload, Knowledge of HACCP, Experience working with Volunteers, Baking experience preferably in retail.
  • Skills: Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills, to communicate effectively with staff, patients and all visitors to The HWBC and Stratford Hospital, Ability to use equipment associated with a Catering/retail environment i.e. till and coffee machine.
  • Personal Qualities: Professional and enthusiastic manner, Flexible in working in a diverse community, accommodating of the challenging, demanding and busy environment, Adaptability, flexibility and ability to multi-task, Ability to manage own workload and time, Self-motivated, Team player.
  • Other: Display a flexible approach to work and the ability to cope with changes in environment and new technology, Able to work under pressure and to deadlines, Keen to develop personal skills, Numerate and able to collate information.
