Tech-savvy outdoor instructor for growing outdoor centre software based in Scotland.
Part-time, 2 days a week (15 hours). Hybrid - one day a week in person, Buckie, Aberdeen or Inverness. Flexible start date, ideally up and running in September.
Looking for a winter job? We're building the booking and operations platform that helps outdoor activity businesses run themselves, reducing their admin burden, helping them grow, and letting them focus on delivering great experiences in the outdoors.
Swellbase was originally built for my centre on the Moray Coast, Blue Coast, which is now run day-to-day on Swellbase by my team, while I'm full-time on Swellbase. Since launching in April, 17 operators across the UK and Canada have moved onto Swellbase. Bookings, staff assignments, instructor qualifications and training records, operational documents, waivers and session photos - in one place instead of 6, and several hours of admin time saved every week.
We're looking for one person, two days a week, to help reach more operators like us.
Day to day:
- You'd work directly with me. I've built Swellbase brick by brick from the ground up until now, and you'd be figuring things out with me rather than being dropped in and left to it. At least one day a week we're in the same room, the rest of the time you've got me on the end of a phone.
- Find operators worth talking to. Outdoor businesses on clunky, legacy software, who have an outsized admin burden to manage.
- Have honest conversations. Calls with people exactly like the ones you've worked for, or worked as.
- Get them up and running. When an operator signs up, you help move their business across. A few hours of careful and critical work that helps them succeed.
3 Essentials:
- You’ve worked in the outdoor industry. Centre management experience is a big plus. Our whole advantage is understanding these businesses from the inside and solving their specific problems.
- You’re comfortable with tech. You pick up new software quickly, get curious rather than annoyed when something doesn’t work, and can confidently walk a non-technical centre owner through using software.
- You are hungry and willing to sell. Sales experience isn’t necessary, but you need to be willing. That means being fine with people not replying, following up when it’s awkward, and being direct with operators.
Salary:
The full-time version of this job pays £27k base, with uncapped commission. This role is that job at two days a week, so: £10,800 base, paid monthly. Commission on top, realistically £3k in your first year.
Base (2 days p/w): £10,800. On target commission: £4,920. OTE: £15,720.
Details:
Two full days, 7.5 hours each. Any two days Monday to Friday, whichever suit you, and one of them in person with me - Buckie, Aberdeen or Inverness. You’d be our first hire. That means a founder, 17 operators, and the very early stages of process/structure. You’d help shape how this role works, which means figuring things out as we go.
Progression. It's two days a week because that’s what revenue currently covers. We’re growing every month and planning full-time hires next year.
