Swegon are looking for a Test and CFD Engineer to work across our sites in both Snodland, Kent and Whitstable, Kent. This is an exciting opportunity for a graduate engineer or physicist to apply analytical, experimental and modelling skills within a highly technical manufacturing environment. This role focuses on the performance testing, validation and development of Waterloo’s extensive range of air distribution products, including Grilles, Diffusers, Louvres and Plenums. Working as part of the Engineering team, the successful candidate will support product R&D, performance optimisation and bespoke customer solutions through a combination of physical testing, computational modelling and data analysis. The position offers exposure to the full product development lifecycle, from experimental design and laboratory testing through to interpretation of results, technical reporting and cross-functional engineering support.
Main duties and responsibilities: (This is not an exhaustive list and is subject to change depending on the business needs)
- Coordinate and manage workload across Waterloo’s test laboratories, validation activities and engineering modelling programmes.
- Design, execute and report on product performance and validation testing for both standard and bespoke products, using a combination of CFD simulation, airflow analysis and acoustic testing methodologies.
- Plan and deliver structured experimental programmes, including Design of Experiments (DOE), data acquisition, statistical analysis and technical interpretation of results to support product development and performance optimisation.
- Manage multiple test and development projects simultaneously, ensuring accurate documentation and traceability of all simulation, testing and validation activities through technical reports, photography, video records and engineering logs.
- Support the development, validation and continuous improvement of Waterloo products through empirical testing, computational modelling and engineering analysis.
- Ensure all testing and validation activities comply with relevant industry standards, European norms, building regulations and recognised engineering best practice, including coordination of third-party testing and certification where required.
- Maintain and develop in-house laboratory and testing facilities, including equipment calibration, serviceability, compliance and continuous improvement of test capability.
- Support customer and third-party witness testing, product demonstrations and technical validation activities both on-site and at external test facilities.
- Present technical findings and project updates to local and group management teams, contributing to engineering reviews, product development discussions and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with Engineering, Sales and Marketing teams to provide technical support for new product development, bespoke customer applications and performance-led sales opportunities.
Essential Experience:
- Understanding of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics or applied physics.
- Experience in experimental testing, data analysis and technical reporting.
- Exposure to CFD simulation and engineering modelling.
- Experience using CAD software.
- Ability to analyse technical data using Excel, Python or similar.
- Understanding of product testing and validation processes.
- Managing multiple technical tasks and projects.
- Familiarity with instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
Essential Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s Degree BSc / BEng or Level 6 Qualifications in: Mechanical Engineering, Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics or Aeronautical / Aerospace Engineering.
- It would also be desirable to have a Postgraduate qualification (Engineering, or MBA) or a Membership to one or more of the following:
- IMechE (Institute of Mechanical Engineers)
- IET (Institute of Engineering & Technology)
- CIBSE (Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineering)
