The purpose of this role: The MEP Estimating Manager is responsible for preparing and leading accurate and competitive tenders that align with the company’s business objectives and procedural standards. The role requires the development of robust bids through a thorough examination and analysis of tender documentation. This includes identifying potential risks and opportunities to support the company’s strategic goals. Key to the role is staying informed about current market trends, including monitoring potential price fluctuations, to ensure bids remain competitive and commercially sound. By delivering high-quality tenders, the MEP Estimating Manager contributes directly to the company’s growth and reputation within the industry.
Job Requirements
- Significant experience in estimating, with a proven track record of operating successfully in senior or comparable estimating roles.
- Strong technical knowledge of both Electrical and Mechanical systems from an estimating perspective. While candidates may have a particular strength in either Electrical or Mechanical disciplines, a solid working knowledge of both M&E is essential.
- Experience of working in the data centre market (new build and refurbishment) is preferred.
- Familiarity with contract documentation, with the ability to identify and assess potential risks effectively.
Qualifications
- Minimum HNC or equivalent in a construction-related subject.
- Proficient in the use of estimating software packages such as Conquest (training can be provided if necessary).
- Fully IT competent, with strong proficiency in relevant software and tools.

Job Responsibilities
- Tender Preparation and Strategy: Collaborate with the Pre Construction Director to develop and implement tender strategies. Assess and interpret client requirements to inform bid development. Prepare preliminary costs in conjunction with the Construction and Planning teams. Compile and present net cost estimates for review and adjudication by the Sector Lead or Managing Director.
- Subcontractor and Supplier Management: Participate in the selection of proposed subcontractors and suppliers. Manage the tender and cost plan process in coordination with the Pre Construction Director.
- Risk and Value Management: Identify and evaluate risks and opportunities, including developing proposals for their management. Advise on alternative solutions and value engineering options to enhance project outcomes.
- Client and Stakeholder Engagement: Review contractor proposals to ensure alignment with client requirements or propose necessary amendments. Negotiate effectively with clients and their representatives. Attend tender interviews and meetings with clients and stakeholders.
- Internal and External Collaboration: Maintain continuous liaison with relevant departments, business units, and core teams. Foster and sustain strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Compliance and Reporting: Ensure key issues are identified and presented at tender adjudication meetings. Adhere to Sweet Projects’ procedures, policies, and systems. Follow the guidelines and requirements of the Integrated Management System and the Information Security Management System.
The duties listed are not exhaustive and may be varied from time to time as dictated by the changing needs of the Company. The post holder will be expected to undertake other duties as appropriate and as requested by his/her manager. The post holder may be required to work at any of the locations at which the business of Sweet Projects is conducted.
