Location: Bristol – this role can be worked flexibly with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office.
The Senior Water Quality Modeller supports water companies through AMP8 and beyond, addressing critical challenges around water quality, storm overflows and environmental compliance.
Responsibilities
- Develop, calibrate, audit and interpret models to assess water quality performance within sewerage catchments and receiving waters.
- Undertake Urban Pollution Modelling (UPM) studies to identify, assess and investigate water quality failures and compliance risks.
- Develop and appraise improvement options to address identified water quality issues, including CSOs and intermittent discharges.
- Provide technical assurance and peer review of modelling outputs, reports and proposed improvement options.
- Advise on the selection and application of appropriate modelling tools and techniques, such as SIMCAT, SAGIS, InfoWorks ICM, MIKE and GIS.
- Produce Water Framework Directive (WFD) compliance assessments to support environmental assessments and regulatory submissions.
- Design, model and support the delivery of Natural Flood Management (NFM) measures where appropriate.
- Prepare technical reports and environmental and water quality impact assessments.
Qualifications
- Significant experience in water quality and hydrology applied to a range of projects.
- Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject including geography, engineering, environmental sciences or maths.
- Strong knowledge and experience of standard hydrological and water quality modelling software and environmental assessment tools.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage projects, working within agreed deliverables, key milestones, project methodology, QA and control strategy.
- Knowledge of Flood Risk Assessment, Natural Flood Management and Sustainable Drainage (SuDs) techniques.
- Working towards or holding chartered status from an appropriate institution (C.Eng or C.WEM).
