We’re looking for a Graduate Transport Planner to join our Transport Planning Scotland team in Edinburgh or Glasgow.
As a Graduate Transport Planner, you will contribute to the successful delivery of transport projects from inception through to detailed design. Our team provides expert advisory services to clients, developing robust deliverables for successful transport projects and strategies. We recognise the complexities of modern transportation, balancing the needs of all users while promoting sustainable and active travel modes amidst growing demand on infrastructure.
In this role, you will utilise your strong analytical and problem-solving skills to find quick, innovative, and practical solutions to complex transportation issues. You will work closely with experienced consultants, analysing and appraising transportation projects, and providing day-to-day technical input as part of a team of experts. You will thrive in a team environment, sharing knowledge and demonstrating pride in your work as you build strong, positive working relationships with colleagues and clients. We are looking for someone with a keen interest in transport and the urban environment, to help shape the future of transportation, creating greener, cleaner, and more equitable systems that address the challenges of the 21st century.
What does the role involve?
- Collect, analyse, and appraise data related to transport systems, including traffic patterns, public transport usage, and demographic data.
- Provide day-to-day technical input as part of a team of consultants.
- Produce clear, well-reasoned, and persuasive reports that effectively interpret data and other evidence, ensuring findings are communicated effectively to stakeholders.
- Ensure your output is completed in accordance with the scope of works, timescales and budgets.
- Work in close collaboration with colleagues from other disciplines as required to deliver project requirements and added value to the client.
- Engage with the Transport Planning Society's Professional Development Scheme, which supports your progression towards becoming a Chartered Transport Planning Professional, enhancing your skills and career development in the field.
Who are we looking for?
Our unique, personalised programme is designed for passionate, forward-thinking graduates who want to change the world around them, who will thrive in a dynamic team environment, and who are hungry to collaborate not only with fellow graduates, but also with mentors and leaders across the business.
What do you need to apply?
We want to hear from you if you:
- Have a degree relevant to the role you’re applying for.
- Have less than 12 months of relevant work experience (excluding placements).
- Are confident using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint).
- Are driven, proactive, and solution-oriented.
- Can work in the UK without restrictions either now or in the future.
This is a permanent role, and we’re looking for candidates who can grow their careers with Sweco without a time limit.
