Become part of our society. We are currently looking for a talented and motivated engineer to join our Active Travel team in Edinburgh. This role can be worked flexibly, with a minimum of three days per week in the office and the option of adjusted start and finish times.

Our active travel team are recognised industry leaders and have developed a reputation for producing high‑quality outputs for our clients across all project stages. Our current portfolio of projects includes urban city/town centre interventions and rural linear route development schemes across Scotland and beyond. Recent and ongoing projects include Accessible Ayr, Kilmarnock Infinity Loop, Granton Waterfront Development and Dundee Sustainable Transport Corridors. We work for a range of clients including national government agencies, local authorities, private developers and community groups.

We use the latest design software and techniques to develop innovative, sustainable and efficient design solutions with safety and sustainability at the forefront of our minds.

What does the role involve?

  • Working as an engineer in our active travel team, you'll be exposed to project work across all stages of design development and pre‑construction, from inception through to detailed design, with potential for site supervision responsibilities during construction.
  • You will undertake engineering design and development through proven techniques and procedures to develop appropriate solutions to client problems, including preparation of feasibility studies to assess constraints, risks, opportunities and route and/or provision type options.
  • Undertaking elements of design including cycle track/path alignment, drainage, kerbing, footways, traffic signs and road markings.
  • Producing design outputs such as drawings, specifications, schedules, reports and calculations to achieve the optimum solution for the project.
  • Working in close collaboration with your team and other design disciplines, appreciating their roles.
  • Ensuring deliverables are carried out within agreed timescales and budgets.
  • Ensuring solutions meet client needs and expectations are met or exceeded.
  • Liaising with clients and contractors and supervising works on site when required.
  • Ensuring all work is carried out to the Company’s IMS and current H.
