We’re Europe’s leading design, engineering, environment and regulatory consultancy and we’re now recruiting for a Wastewater/Urban Drainage Modeller to join our Water department in Edinburgh. These roles can be worked flexibly, with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office and the option of adjusted start and finish times.

Joining our Urban Drainage Modelling Team will give you the opportunity to contribute to a range of transformative projects. From conducting comprehensive feasibility studies, precise model building and verification, to undertaking surface water management plans and producing development impact assessments, every project is unique. You will leverage state-of-the-art design software and advanced techniques to create groundbreaking solutions that meet our clients' needs.

What does the role involve?

  • Working within our Urban Drainage Modelling Team to support colleagues in delivering a programme of modelling work.
  • Developing a wide range of skills including hydraulic modelling, flood risk assessment, sustainable drainage, GIS, solution development, and schematic, outline and detailed design.
  • On the job training and support provided by senior personnel who are respected experts in their fields.
  • Core duties and responsibilities will include:
  • Innovative thinking and helping us deliver better solutions for our clients.
  • Working under your own initiative and seeking assistance when required.
  • Bringing together ideas and expertise from multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Supporting strong ongoing client relationships.
  • Contributing to a supportive team environment with active involvement in mentoring and professional development.
  • Leading small projects under the supervision of senior staff.
  • Production of client facing documents and technical deliverables.
  • Preparing technical reports and other deliverables.
  • Data handling and analysis of large datasets.
  • Client and stakeholder engagement and management.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Previous water consultancy experience, some engineering design experience or hydraulic modelling experience is desirable.
  • A degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Geography or a related discipline with significant engineering, hydraulics or GIS content.
  • A strong interest in the water environment and an understanding of sustainability and climate change adaptation issues.
  • Experience of GIS (e.g. ArcGIS or Mapinfo) is essential and hydraulic modelling software (e.g. Infoworks ICM) is desirable.
  • A commitment to continuous professional development and becoming a chartered professional.
  • Good problem solving/contingency planning skills with ability to find quick, innovative and practical solutions to problems.
  • Excellent literacy, communication, analytical and numeracy skills.
