We’re searching for a motivated Principal Transport Planner to join our Glasgow office. The role offers flexible working with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office.

About the role

The successful candidate will deliver a range of transport planning projects, contributing to business development and supporting a portfolio that includes scheme appraisals, business case development, feasibility studies, accessibility analysis, stakeholder engagement and strategy development. You will work in a collaborative team with engineers, planners and environmental scientists.

Responsibilities

  • You will be leading the delivery of a wide variety of project transport planning and project delivery tasks for a range of public and private sector clients.
  • You will work alongside our team of transport planners as well as engineers, planners and environmental scientists as part of a multi‑disciplinary delivery team.
  • Contributing to various transport planning projects such as transport appraisal, business cases, sustainable travel, stakeholder and public consultation, monitoring & evaluation, and feasibility studies.
  • Offering analytical support, leveraging existing capabilities or acquiring new skills as needed.
  • Maintaining client communication to ensure project delivery aligns with their objectives and requirements.
  • Ensuring the technical accuracy of all work completed within agreed timelines and budgets.
  • Adhering to the company’s Integrated Management Systems (IMS) in all tasks.
  • Providing technical guidance, support, and training to colleagues, and assisting in the mentoring and development of junior team members.
  • Collaborating closely with colleagues from other disciplines.
  • Participating in the preparation and presentation of proposals and bids, including estimating timescales and costs for proposed works.

Qualifications

  • A degree in a relevant discipline with a commitment to professional development and recognition as a Transport Planning/Engineering Professional (CTPP qualification or equivalent).
  • A background in transport planning, contributing to high‑profile projects, with knowledge in areas such as business case development, scheme feasibility, transport assessments, and strategy development.
  • Experience of preparing and/or assuring business cases following HM Treasury Green Book, STAG and DfT TAG guidance.
  • Ability to develop transport assessments, transport statements, travel plans, and strategy documents, adhering to national, regional and local policy and guidance.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with proven experience in producing clear and effective reports.
  • Strong verbal communication skills, with a background in interacting with clients, communicating to a non‑technical audience, and balancing differing client priorities.
  • A creative, solution‑oriented mindset that considers multiple perspectives to solve problems.
  • The capacity to manage tasks efficiently, ensuring outputs meet programme, budget, and quality controls, while being adaptable to handle a varied workload and embrace new technologies.
  • Proven organisational and prioritisation skills to meet deadlines, along with experience in the financial and technical management of projects.
  • A strong interest in emerging markets, including decarbonisation, digitalisation, and the green transition, and a desire to integrate these innovations.
