The Clinical Directorate Business Manager is a key role within the Clinical Directorate, providing high-level business, governance and operational management support to senior clinical leaders. The postholder will lead on the coordination of workforce, recruitment, governance, performance and administrative functions, ensuring the Directorate operates efficiently and effectively. Acting as a central point of contact between the Clinical Directorate and corporate support services including HR, Finance, Governance and IT, the role will support the delivery of strategic priorities, quality improvement and service development across the Trust.

We are looking for a highly organised, proactive and motivated individual with excellent communication and problem‑solving skills, experience of working within a complex healthcare environment and the ability to manage multiple priorities independently. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting patient safety, workforce resilience, governance compliance and continuous improvement within the Directorate.

Main duties of the job:

  • Provide comprehensive business, operational and administrative management support to the Clinical Directorate and senior clinical leaders.
  • Act as the central point of coordination and communication for the Clinical Team Directorate.
  • Lead and support governance, quality and compliance processes including investigations, risk management, action plans and reporting.
  • Coordinate recruitment, onboarding, induction and workforce administration processes for Clinical Team staff.
  • Monitor and support compliance with mandatory training, appraisals, sickness management and workforce policies.
  • Manage rotas, leave, timesheets, expenses and workforce planning arrangements for the Clinical Team.
  • Organise and coordinate meetings, prepare agendas and papers, and produce accurate minutes and action logs.
  • Produce reports, analyse performance data and support delivery of Directorate objectives, KPIs and improvement plans.
  • Liaise with internal departments including HR, Finance, Governance, IT and operational teams to ensure effective support for the Directorate.
  • Support the implementation of service improvements, projects and operational change initiatives.
  • Maintain oversight of governance systems, risk registers, compliance trackers and Trust reporting systems.
  • Support operational planning and coordination during periods of service pressure, critical incidents and organisational change.

Person Specification:

Education and qualifications:

  • Educated to A level/apprenticeship or vocational diploma level.
  • Administrative management experience within the NHS or similar healthcare setting.
  • Experience of working in an environment which is target quality focused.
  • Experience of working within a call centre setting.

Aptitude and personal characteristics:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to appropriately challenge and hold senior colleagues to account.
