To be responsible for ensuring students are prepared for placement before entering into SWASfT and for supporting, guiding and acting as a point of contact for practice educators (PE's). To ensure PEs are prepared, updated and supported in collaboration with the SWASfT CPD team and academic program leads. To ensure students are prepared for placement setting through the delivery of central and local inductions. To support and achieve local practice placement priorities and NHS England (formally Health Education England) Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). To support the Practice Placement Education (PPE) Team in identifying and coordinating the placement of university degree students in various settings across the organisation to support practice‑based learning and the opportunity to gain the skills and knowledge necessary to become a confident and competent registered Paramedic at completion of their academic programme.
This is a highly visible role within learning and development, providing practice placement education and support to ensure high quality, safe student placement is achieved. The role includes reviewing student feedback from the National Education and Training Survey, sharing it with departmental managers to celebrate good feedback and address concerns. It also involves engaging in work streams that meet national priorities and challenges as directed by line managers, and participating in provider and external stakeholder meetings to gain a wider understanding of system‑based working and priorities.
Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs): Attend meetings in both academic and healthcare settings to strengthen practice education and student support processes; take forward actions in conjunction with relevant teams, departments both internally and externally to the organisation; attend events at HEIs to provide an opportunity to promote SWASfT as a placement provider for paramedic academic programs, and to promote our employer who embraces preceptorship and the importance of a smooth transition into autonomous practice.
We work with the wider Education Department, Operations Directorate, and specifically our practice educators to identify placement learning opportunities and pathways to meet the needs of the programmes the students are studying, in conjunction with other members of the PPE Team. We advise, develop and ensure quality of learning opportunities within a multiprofessional framework so that service users receive a high standard of care. We provide practice placement pastoral support to students, practice educators, operations teams and the wider workforce. We build positive relationships with wider internal directorates and teams to develop a team culture and enhance placement quality and experience for all. We work with wider directorates to identify and establish new placement opportunities within the wider scope of the trust to enrich the learning experience of the student and identify career options and opportunities beyond frontline working.

Person Specification:
- Education and qualifications: Relevant BSc (Hons) degree or equivalent such as an apprenticeship or diploma and working towards a relevant post‑graduate level qualification such as MSc. Management or Clinical Leadership qualification.
- Previous experience: Knowledge and experience of working in a healthcare setting as an AHP or other equivalent experience. Previous experience working within a healthcare setting.
- Skills, knowledge, ability: Computer literate with a working knowledge of word processing, databases and spreadsheet packages. Proven ability to act as a leader.
- Aptitude and personal characteristics: Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
