Job DescriptionProduction Manager β MelsonbyAre you an experienced Production Manager who believes great manufacturing starts with great people? We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Production Manager to lead our production teams across our two manufacturing facilities in Melsonby. This is a highly visible leadership role.
You'll be regularly out on the shop floor, talking to the team, understanding our products and processes, identifying challenges and working with people to find practical solutions.
We're looking for an approachable and supportive leader who takes ownership of production performance while creating a positive environment where people feel valued, motivated and able to do their best work.
What you will doYou'll have overall responsibility for the day-to-day operation of production across both Melsonby facilities, working closely with Production, Engineering and wider teams to ensure we manufacture safely, efficiently, on time and to the required quality standards.
Your responsibilities will include:
Providing strong, visible leadership across both facilities and spending time on the shop floorLeading, developing and motivating production teamsBuilding strong relationships with employees and understanding their challenges, ideas and concernsDeveloping a strong understanding of our products and manufacturing processesIdentifying production issues and working with the team to find practical solutionsPlanning production schedules and capacity, ensuring labour, equipment and materials are used effectivelyMonitoring production performance, KPIs, quality and delivery targetsEnsuring products are manufactured to specification and required quality standardsWorking closely with Engineering to improve processes and support Design for ManufactureInvestigating quality issues and driving appropriate corrective actionsDriving continuous improvement, Lean Manufacturing and 5SManaging production resources to support productivity, delivery and cost controlWorking with internal teams to manage priorities, delivery schedules and overdue ordersEnsuring Health & Safety standards are maintained and risks are proactively managedSupporting recruitment, performance, absence management, training and workforce developmentCoaching and mentoring team members and building future capability within the production functionWhy SWARCO?At SWARCO, you'll be joining a global technology business that develops solutions designed to make journeys safer, smarter and more sustainable.

QualificationsWe're looking for an experienced Production Manager and strong people leader who is visible, approachable and hands-on. You'll ideally have: Proven experience in a Production Manager or senior production leadership roleExperience leading, developing and motivating production teamsExperience in a low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environmentAn electro-mechanical or engineering-based manufacturing backgroundA strong understanding of technical drawings and manufacturing informationExperience improving production performance and resolving problems using root-cause analysisKnowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 5S and continuous improvementExperience using ERP systems, ideally SAPGood Microsoft Office skills, particularly ExcelStrong communication skills and the ability to work effectively at all levelsMost importantly, you'll be a leader who: Is visible and approachable on the shop floorTakes the time to understand their team, the products and the challenges they faceListens, builds trust and creates a positive team cultureGets involved when problems arise and focuses on practical solutionsBalances people, quality, production and commercial prioritiesSets clear expectations and holds people accountable fairlyEnjoys developing people and building capability within the teamAdditional InformationApply today and become part of SWARCO UK & Ireland.
