What you will do
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Lincoln‑based Trainee Installer to join our field installation team. This is a hands‑on, outdoor‑based role where you will learn how to install and support a wide range of roadside and urban transport technology systems. Working alongside experienced engineers, you will gain practical skills in installing, wiring, and maintaining equipment used to manage traffic flow and improve road safety. You will be trained to work on real‑world infrastructure including traffic signals, pedestrian crossings, road sensors, traffic signage, and roadside control equipment, gradually building your confidence and technical ability in a live operational environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Learning how to install traffic signals, pedestrian crossings, and roadside control equipment
- Assisting with the installation of traffic sensors, detection systems, and electronic signage
- Supporting engineers with wiring, mounting, and commissioning of roadside systems
- Ensuring all tools, equipment, and PPE are used safely and correctly
- Helping to prepare and set up site installations
- Supporting maintenance and basic repair activities under supervision
- Following Health & Safety procedures at all times
- Completing job sheets and basic site documentation accurately
On a day‑to‑day basis, you will:
- Work outdoors on roadside and street‑based installations
- Assist experienced engineers with setup and installation work
- Learn how traffic systems are wired, tested, and commissioned
- Help transport and prepare equipment for site work
- Follow safe working practices in live traffic environments
- Record basic job information and support paperwork completion
- Develop hands‑on skills in electrical and mechanical installation
