At the forefront of intelligent traffic management, we design and deliver innovative solutions that keep people moving safely and efficiently across the UK and Ireland. We are recruiting for a 12-month placement student in our software development team. This role would ideally suit a student on a placement year from their degree/course. Based from home with a specific focus on being located in the North West of England, the successful candidate will develop responsive dashboards and visualisations for traffic and mobility data. They will contribute to the design and implementations of new and existing features on our smart mobility platforms.
Responsibilities
- Support the integration of front-end systems with SWARCO’s traffic management solutions.
- Participate in end-to-end testing and quality assurance of new releases.
- Research and suggest improvements in user experience, design, and performance.
- Document code, processes, and technical knowledge for future use.
- Assist in delivering software updates and enhancements aligned with business and customer needs.
- Review code and contribute to maintaining coding best practices.
- Work with APIs to retrieve and display real-time transport and traffic data.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a degree program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, seeking a 12-month industrial placement.
- Basic knowledge of front-end web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript).
- Exposure to Angular (or another modern front-end framework such as React or Vue) is desirable but not essential.
- Interest in technology applied to smart mobility, transport, or real-time data systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
