What you will do

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and reliable Engineer to join our Field Engineering Services Team in Leeds. In this field‑based role, you will be responsible for maintaining traffic signals, signage, and other roadside technology equipment in line with customer specifications and contractual requirements. Reporting to the Supervisor, you will support commissioning, routine maintenance, and reactive fault response activities across the team portfolio. You will represent SWARCO on customer sites, ensuring all work is delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contractual conditions. The role also involves supporting Quality, Health & Safety, and Environmental compliance, while contributing to high levels of service performance. Participation in a 24/7 standby rota is required, and occasional travel to other company locations, including overnight stays, may be necessary.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining traffic signals, signs, and roadside ITS equipment
  • Supporting commissioning and installation activities
  • Carrying out routine preventative maintenance
  • Responding to reactive faults within contractual timescales
  • Ensuring compliance with Quality, Health & Safety, and Environmental standards
  • Representing SWARCO professionally on customer sites
  • Maintaining accurate service documentation and records
  • Supporting delivery of contractual KPIs and performance requirements
  • Assisting with maintaining company accreditations

On a day‑to‑day basis, you will:

  • Perform planned maintenance across customer sites
  • Diagnose and repair equipment faults
  • Support commissioning of new installations
  • Liaise with supervisors and customers regarding work activities
  • Ensure safe working practices are followed at all times
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicle
  • Complete documentation accurately and within required timescales
  • Participate in standby rota and out‑of‑hours support

You may also:

  • Work at other company locations where required
  • Stay overnight for project or maintenance work when necessary
  • Support wider engineering teams during peak periods

What we are looking for

  • GCSEs in English, Maths & Science (or equivalent)
  • Sector 8 Accreditation
  • Good understanding of traffic signal installation and basic theory
  • Knowledge of traffic controllers, signs, and associated equipment
  • Basic electrical knowledge
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work at heights
  • Organised, trustworthy, and self‑motivated approach
  • Strong safety awareness
  • Full UK driving licence
