Traffic Signals Engineer – Leeds

Challenge
We are currently looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Traffic Signals Engineer to join our Field Engineering Services team in Leeds.
What you’ll do
This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly skilled field engineering team responsible for maintaining, fault‑finding, commissioning and supporting critical roadside technology across the region.
Working on traffic signals, signs and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) equipment, you will play a key role in ensuring our customers’ assets remain operational, safe and compliant, helping to keep road users moving every day.
The successful candidate will undertake both planned and reactive maintenance activities, diagnose and resolve faults, support commissioning activities and ensure all works are completed in line with contractual requirements, quality standards and health and safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out routine and reactive maintenance on traffic signals, signs and ITS equipment.
- Diagnose and repair electrical, electronic and communication faults.
- Assist with the installation, testing and commissioning of new and upgraded equipment.
- Ensure contractual response and repair times are achieved.
- Complete all associated documentation accurately and on time.
- Support the delivery of Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental objectives.
- Participate in the standby and out-of-hours call‑out rota.
- Build positive relationships with customers, stakeholders and colleagues.
- Ensure company vehicles, tools, equipment and PPE are maintained in a safe and serviceable condition.
- Represent SWARCO professionally at all times.

Profile
Essential
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English, Maths and Science.
- Good understanding of traffic signal installations and basic traffic signal theory.
- Knowledge of traffic signal controllers, roadside signs and associated equipment.
- Basic electrical knowledge and fault‑finding capability.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work at height.
- Strong organisational skills with a proactive and professional approach.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable
- Previous experience working within the traffic signals, highways, ITS or electrical infrastructure sectors.
- Sector 8 Accreditation or equivalent traffic management experience.
- Electrical qualification or relevant engineering apprenticeship.
- Experience commissioning traffic signal equipment.
- Knowledge of industry standards and traffic signal maintenance practices.
