We are looking for an experienced CAD Design Engineer to join our engineering team in Melsonby, where you will play a key role in developing high-quality electro‑mechanical product designs that support our manufacturing and project delivery teams.

What you'll do
As a CAD Design Engineer, you will be responsible for producing and maintaining detailed 3D CAD models, manufacturing drawings, and engineering documentation using Autodesk Inventor.
Working closely with Electrical Design Engineers and cross‑functional teams, you will ensure designs are accurate, manufacturable, and delivered to project timescales.
- Creating detailed 3D CAD models and engineering drawings using Autodesk Inventor.
- Producing manufacturing drawings, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings and complete drawing packages.
- Creating and maintaining Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Carrying out structural analysis using FEA simulations.
- Developing and programming i Logic functions and other design automation tools.
- Working with Autodesk Vault to manage product data and version control.
- Collaborating with Electrical Design Engineers to deliver complete design packages.
- Producing drawing sets for product approvals and supporting project model reviews.
- Maintaining CAD document archives and supporting project close‑out activities.
- Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement across design processes and documentation.
- Supporting production by preparing production packs and assisting with large‑scale engineering projects.
What we're looking for
You'll be a motivated and detail‑oriented engineer who enjoys solving technical challenges and working collaboratively with colleagues across engineering, manufacturing and production.
You'll be able to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and maintain a high standard of accuracy in everything you produce.
Profile
Essential
- HNC or HND in Engineering or a relevant discipline.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a CAD Design role within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
- At least 3 years’ experience using Autodesk Inventor.
- Experience producing manufacturing drawings and applying Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles.
- Experience managing Bills of Materials and CAD data through ERP/PDM systems.
- Strong working knowledge of Autodesk Vault Professional.
- Experience producing assembly drawings, fabrication drawings, layouts and detailed component drawings.
- Excellent understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, tolerances and design constraints.
- Extensive experience using and programming Autodesk i Logic and other CAD automation functions.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Right to work in the UK.

- Experience carrying out Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
- Knowledge of structural design principles.
- Experience supporting product lifecycle management processes.
- Continuous improvement experience within an engineering environment.
