Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Indirect Tax Manager to join our dynamic ecommerce brand. In this role, you will oversee and manage our indirect tax functions—including sales tax, VAT, GST, and other transaction-based taxes—to ensure compliance, optimize tax positions, and support our global expansion initiatives. The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of tax regulations, and experience working in fast-paced, digitally-driven environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Tax Compliance & Reporting:
- Oversee the preparation and filing of periodic indirect tax returns (e.g., sales tax, VAT, GST) in all applicable jurisdictions.
- Ensure timely and accurate remittance of taxes, while monitoring changes in tax regulations that impact ecommerce transactions.
Process Improvement & Strategy:
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve indirect tax processes and systems, leveraging automation and technology solutions where possible.
- Identify opportunities for tax efficiency and risk mitigation, partnering with cross-functional teams including finance, legal, and operations.
- Manage tax audits and inquiries from tax authorities, serving as the primary point of contact and ensuring prompt resolution of issues.
- Conduct regular internal reviews to ensure compliance with evolving tax laws and internal policies.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with the finance team to integrate tax considerations into financial planning and reporting.
- Support operations and broader teams in understanding tax implications of new initiatives, product launches, and market entries.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and maintain relationships with merchants, external tax advisors, auditors, and government agencies.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and regulatory changes, communicating potential impacts and recommended actions to senior management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field; advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CPA, CTA) preferred.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in indirect tax compliance, planning, or advisory roles, preferably within ecommerce, retail, or a digital environment.
- Strong knowledge of sales tax, VAT, GST, and other indirect tax regulations across multiple jurisdictions; US preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with tax automation tools and ERP systems.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex tax concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Proactive mindset with the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
