The Department of Education and Childhood Studies is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Initial Teacher Education to contribute to the delivery, development and enhancement of the PGCE Primary programme.
The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, assessment and student support across the PGCE Primary programme, working collaboratively with university colleagues and partnership schools to support high‑quality Initial Teacher Education. The role will involve helping student teachers to develop their curriculum knowledge, pedagogical understanding, reflective practice and confidence as beginning teachers. We are particularly interested in applicants with relevant experience of teaching in the primary phase and a strong understanding of Curriculum for Wales, including progression, pedagogy, assessment and curriculum design.
A particular focus of the role will be supporting provision in relation to the Humanities Area of Learning and Experience, including subject knowledge, curriculum planning, pedagogical approaches and the integration of Humanities within primary practice.
Qualifications and Experience- Relevant experience of primary phase teaching.
- Strong understanding of Curriculum for Wales (progression, pedagogy, assessment and curriculum design).
- Experience supporting provision in the Humanities Area of Learning and Experience.

Welsh Language SkillsThe Welsh language level required for this role is Level 1 – A little. The role holder will be able to pronounce Welsh words, answer the phone in Welsh (good morning/afternoon) and use very basic everyday words and phrases (thank you, please etc.). Level 1 can be reached by completing a 1‑hour course. Applications are welcome in Welsh and will not be treated less favourably than those submitted in English. Welsh speakers have the right to an interview in Welsh.
A satisfactory DBS certificate must be provided before a start date can be confirmed.
