About The Role

The role of a Swansea University Security and Campus Response Officer is to act in accordance with Swansea University\’s Security Services Security and Campus Response Policy and Procedures to ensure the delivery of an outstanding customer focused 24-hour service relating to the safety and security of people, buildings, property and the University environment.

Swansea University is a complex, multicultural and vibrant environment requiring an in-depth understanding of multiple systems and processes. This is a physically demanding role and as a Security and Campus Response Officer your duties will include campus patrols, incident management, event management, traffic & parking management, proactive crime prevention, crime and disorder reduction, conflict resolution, first responder duties to incidents, including medical emergencies and mental health first aid, initial investigation and reporting of incidents, preservation of evidence and monitoring CCTV.

The post holder will be part of a team that is responsible for maintaining a safe environment for students, staff and visitors, to deliver an outstanding customer experience and present a positive image of the University to outside organisations and their representatives.

This position will be based at the Singleton and Bay Campus and other university sites or temporary requirements for security services as dictated by operational requirements.

You will be required to work a 12-hour shift system averaging 42 hours per week and you will be required to work overtime for events or to cover staff absences or attend training events. As part of the Estates and Campus Services Department, the post holder will have a flexible approach to their work supporting all the services.

Salary and Benefits

Salary: £34507 per annum (pro-rata if part time). This includes a basic salary of £22,277, contracted overtime of £6661 and shift allowance of £5569, and NEST Pension benefits (National Employment Savings Trust) for newly employed staff.

Welsh Language Skills

The Welsh language level required for this role is Level 1 – A little. The role holder will be able to pronounce Welsh words, answer the phone in Welsh (good morning/afternoon) and use very basic everyday words and phrases (thank you, please etc.). Level 1 can be reached by completing a 1 hour course.

Additional Information

Candidates must possess excellent communication skills, verbal, written, and interpersonal. A University Security and Campus Response Officer must be able to deal with issues sensitively and calmly. You will also be required to be computer literate (training will be provided) in order to complete reports to good evidential standards on the Security reporting systems. There is a need for discretion and confidentiality, as well as a need to be able to establish effective working relationships with colleagues. A full valid driving licence is essential. Successful candidates are expected to attain relevant SIA licenses within an agreed timeframe and undergo continuous professional development.

A satisfactory DBS certificate must be provided before a start date can be confirmed
