To organise and supervise administrative systems within the school and provide support to the ALNCO and ALN department, contributing to the planning, monitoring and development of support services, including coordination of relevant activities. Responsible for the management and development of a specialist area within the school – assessment for examination access arrangements and ALN pupil assessment.
Support for Pupils
- Assess the needs of pupils and use detailed knowledge and specialist skills to provide support to teachers to promote pupils' learning.
- Establish productive working relationships with pupils outside of classroom, acting as a role model and setting high expectations.
- Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils within the school.
- Administer the responsibilities of the review system, liaising with key staff to do so.
- Encourage pupils to interact and work co-operatively with others and engage all pupils in activities during assessments.
- Track and monitor the pupil level data to inform targets for learning plans (i.e. IDPs).
- Provide feedback to pupils and parents in relation to individual learning needs.
- Manage administration of ALN assessment systems including timetabling, administration of assessments and collating data.
Support for Teacher
- Work alongside the ALNCO to support the management of the ALN Department.
- Monitor and evaluate SEN pupils' responses to learning activities through a range of established whole school assessment and monitoring strategies against pre-determined learning objectives.
- Provide objective and accurate feedback and reports as required on pupil achievement, progress and other matters, ensuring the availability of appropriate evidence.
- Support the role of parents in pupils' learning and contribute to/lead meetings with parents to provide constructive feedback on pupil progress/achievement.
- Administer and assess routine tests and invigilate exams/tests and routine mailing of pupils' work.
- Manage the Access Arrangement assessment system including identifying candidates, organising timetable for testing, evaluating data, applying to WJEC and collating evidence from teachers; provide detailed analysis and evaluation of data and produce detailed reports/information as required.
- Assist in the management of TAs during exam period.
- Take a lead role in the management of the PCR review system, liaising with external agencies, parents and the ALNU, preparing all documentation, gathering reports from teaching staff and providing support to other staff who facilitate reviews.
- Manage complex administrative procedures.
- Be responsible for completion and submission of complex forms including those to outside agencies.
Support for Curriculum
- Support the ALNCO in providing for the curriculum needs of ALN pupils.
- Advise on appropriate deployment and use of specialist aid/resources/equipment.
- Manage MIS in relation to ALN/STF pupils supported and advised by the School MIS Officer and the Finance/Business Manager.
- Recognise own strengths and areas of specialist expertise and use these to lead, advise and support others.
Line Management Responsibilities Where Appropriate
- Day-to-day management of intervention teaching assistants and deploy and arrange activities.
General Duties

- Undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required commensurate with the level of the post.
